You want the best mattress, go with SAM! SAM Mattress

I have had major back problems for as far back as I can remember. Early last year I started research on mattresses. Looking to get something other than what I had bought in the past, which was innerspring. I have always bought quality mattresses so it has not been an issue of price. After watching infomercials and visiting a couple of stores in the mall I decided to try the Temperpedic product. I was able to work out the trial where I didn’t have to pay for the return shipping if it didn’t work out.

The first few weeks on the product I didn’t want to make a decision since it was such an unusual feel. One thing I was noticing was I was getting very hot on the bed. My wife felt that the temperature was just fine for her. After trying it for nearly 7 weeks we decided to return it, since we didn’t feel any major change. And we resumed our research.

At this point we decided maybe air was the way to go. So we headed back to the Internet. I had seen the Nautilus mattress on TV and I own a Bowflex, which they also make, so I decided to investigate further. Doing a search on the Nautilus airbed I stumbled onto Comfort Direct. I had never heard of the company before. The site was very informative, although it could use some grammar checks. It became apparent that the product they were pushing was the SAM. I read the information, watched the video and was ready to call with questions. The sales person was very informative and enthusiastic about the product. He detailed it going back to it’s roots in hospitals and rehab centers. The technology seemed to make sense. I decided to go for the mattress. I have a platform bed and I was told it would go right on top. I tried to get 2 pillows out of him, I’ve seen other companies always advertising free memory foam pillows. He said he would have no problem doing that but he didn’t recommend them. He said he could send me this pillow they get out of Canada called Therapeutica. He thought it was the best pillow around. If I liked it, he would send me another. The pillows by the way go by your height and weight, not by the size of your bed. Lead-time is 2 weeks for the bed. I asked to try and rush the order.

Three days in to my wait I did a google search on epinions and was horrified. I immediately called back and tried to cancel my order and hope I could get my money refunded. I spoke to my sales person and told him I had read some bad epinions reviews and wanted to cancel my order and to credit my card. In my panic I didn’t even realize that they hadn’t charged my card; they don’t bill until the day the product ships. My sales person whom’s name I had forgotten but now know George (actually Jorge) said he understood my concerns, and to consider the order canceled.

That evening I found an email from him. At first stating that the order was canceled and nothing had been charged. He also encouraged me to read the reviews again and challenged me to find anything that was mentioned to be false. I was really confused, some people swear by the product and others describe it as a “piece of junk.” I noticed that some people hadn’t even gotten the product. I researched all of the claims that my sales person made, clinical use, and construction, how product works on physics principal. I looked up the company that markets the product for them for healthcare use. . I looked up the product on the website and it’s the same product with the exception of the cover.

The company (KCI) even mentions Boyles Law in their website (although I looked it up independently anyway). I checked the patents on the patent office website. Very detailed but probably too much for most people. I checked with the BBB online and they have no unresolved complaints. Everything I was told checked out, so I decided to take the plunge

A week later I found myself calling the company again. My wife thought I was crazy, she’s probably right. I asked him to send me an email confirming the 90-day trial. It read 㧆 day money back guarantee, customer responsible for shipping product back to manufacturing facilities in NY State. We ask that you try the bed for 4 weeks before deciding if the product is right for you.” So I re ordered.

Two weeks later 3 boxes arrived from Fed Ex. Two days after that UPS shipped my pillow. I had ordered a king bed. There are two sets of inflation systems containing 9 air bladders on each side of the mattress. Foam surrounds the outside to create the walls of the unit. Unlike the product I had looked at mall there wasn’t a foam ridge down the center. Total construction time, maybe 15 minutes. It’s a simple set up just zipping a few part together. It’s probably quicker than that, but I took my time looking at everything.

Before finishing the assembly I did a few “test” on the mattress. As was described to me the chambers are independent of each other. Compressing one chamber doesn’t make the others react. As soon as pressure is taken of the chamber the air is sucked back in. There is a foam core to the chamber that crates the momentum to bring the air back in. The foam also acts as a secondary support incase of failure. With a regular airbed, if you spring a leak, you go flat. I ordered the bed with the Resilitex foam, which is a heavenly feel with out having any smells or feeling hot.

The materials and construction is very impressive. The upper most layer is virgin wool. I did not need to be sold on the properties of wool. It is a magnificent cover. I spent $500 for a set of sheepskin seat covers for my BMW that barely rival this cover.

The feel of the bed is something I have never experienced before. It doesn’t let my body slouch into a hole it gives a very supportive feel to my back, but I don’t feel it pressing against any part of my body. When I change my position to my side, it allows my hips and shoulders to go in with out affecting the other parts of my body. I sleep with the dial towards the firmer side of optimum, and my wife towards the softer side. The change between “soft” and “firm” is not huge. I guess it doesn’t have to be for the bed to work. I noticed that the hospital model doesn’t have a dial, it has just one setting.

The bed felt good to my wife and myself from day one, something I was told not to expect. Not that it completely fixed my back but that it felt good. The real change for me developed into the second months when I found myself walking up with no lower back pain and feeling very refreshed.

I have owned my original SAM for about 5 months now and it has truly changed how my back feels and my sleep patterns. I have never felt so refreshed in the morning. I don’t have the lower back pain I have had most of my adult life (I’m 47). It is possibly the best investment I have ever made for my health and my family’s health. I just ordered my second mattress, a full size, for my son.

I made the leap of faith for the product because I was looking to change the quality of my sleep and my life. I can and will recommend this product to everyone I know. I recommend it to you if you are looking to change the way your body feels everyday when you wake up. I recommended even if you don’t have back pain and just want to have deep sleep and a superbly built product.
