Rarely have I been so excited, delighted, and satisfied with a product. My husband and I are "pushing 60," with the usual middle-aged kinks and knots in our joints. For over a year, we’d been researching mattresses, in what we truly believed would be an expensive but ultimately vain effort to find the Perfect Mattress.
We responded to an ad on TV, touting the Nautilus System. We received a video featuring attractive couples dreaming on a mattress, turning in their sleep with smiling faces. The bed’s construction was shown in some detail, especially in the ream of flyers accompanying the free video. "How much does this cost?" my husband asked. "Well, you have to add in the foundation, then the separate pieces for the individually-controlled air panel devices, then the mattress. Let’s see here. Uh…"
Not that we racked our collective brain, but it soon became apparent to us that the Nautilus System was a wee bit pricey for our budget, and with no real guarantees. Yes, any reputable dealer will offer some sort of money-back guarantee — but with beds, it’s more than a little "iffy" about what/how much the guarantee will cover. In many states, there’s a law that says beds which have been in a private home are no longer marketable at the original commercial price.
We frequented furniture stores, called on the phone, amassed data. Each morning we woke up with back aches, throbbing joints, something. "Help!" we cried. "This old mattress has got to go!"
Then, my brother called from Detroit on New Year’s Eve, to wish us a happy new year. "Hey, have you heard of the Stearns and Foster?" he said. "For the first time in my life, I don’t have a perpetual backache."
First thing I did was to do a web search for the Stearns and Foster. Found a factory/outlet in North Carolina, our neighbor state to the south. Ordered a king-size Stearns and Foster Branford model. Delivered to our home in rural Virginia by tractor-trailer two days later, now installed in our home, now being slept on…
by two people "pushing 60," dreaming on our plush Stearns and Foster, turning in our sleep with smiling faces.
I can’t recommend this mattress highly enough. Pretend you’re in an absolutely top-of-the-line swanky resort, where you expect and pay for only the best. That’s what it feels like to retire for the night in your very own bedroom.
