After 15 years, our trusty Spring Air back supporter was on its last legs. My wife, who has lower back pain, really wanted to try the Tempur Pedic, as we had done some research on the product, and it had a good return policy. Two thousand dollars is a lot of money for a mattress, but when you spend a third of your life sleeping, well…
We bought the mattress in the dead of a Texas summer. My wife was instantly thrilled, saying her back hadn’t felt this good in years. I, quite frankly, think it provides a good night’s sleep; but if I had a choice, I’d rather have another Spring Air. The Tempur Pedic does have a lot of nice features. It does mold itself to your body. If you read in bed you can lean on one elbow and your elbow will sink into the mattress and not get stiff. You can jump on the bed and not wake your spouse since the mattress does not transfer motion. The one thing I really do like are the pillows. They really mold themselves to your head. (Should have them on airline seats.)
But here’s the problem for me. Temperature. I find the mattress gets way too hot in the summer. And here’s a big read flag that no one told me; you cannot use an electric blanket, as it will damage the memory foam. We got pretty cold this past winter and had to add extra blankets, and I simply hate the feeling of crawling into a cold bed. The mattress does pick up your body heat after about 20 minutes, but there’s nothing like crawling into a toasty bed on a cold winter night.
Bottom line, it will be good for some but not for others. And that’s the good thing about their return policy.
