My wife and I suspected it was time for a new mattress after staying in a suite at a Sheraton hotel. They advertise the Heavenly Bed in their suites now so we tried it out. It was a fantastic night’s sleep. Took the information…Simmons something-or-other.
So we went looking for mattresses and found the same mattress, then shopped around for prices. We laid on a few others to be sure we were buying the best mattress for us. I saw a Stearns & Foster and hesitated because we’d never heard of it before - in fact I thought it would be an inferior brand for some reason. Then we laid on the S&F Sherrington (without looking at the price tag first).
Both of us said something like "oh my". It was in a class of its own for comfort and support - I mean a whole different league. We looked at each other and it was no question this was the best we’d felt. Then the sticker shock! $2500!! That was a whole different level from the $1200 mattresses we were looking at.
After laying on many more mattresses, including Select Comfort air gizmos, we started reprioritizing budgets to get the S&F. I have to tell you that IT WAS COMPLETELY WORTH the $2000 we ended up paying.
We completely echo the sentiments of another reviewer who said they look forward to going home when traveling to sleep in this bed. Even on vacation we caught ourselves longing for a return to this bed.
I came to find that S&F is an outstanding name known for superior quality. This is a no-brainer to me now…knowing what I know I would find a way to pay double for this mattress if I had to.
UPDATE 4 YEARS LATER (Oct. 2004):
We still absolutely love this mattress and still comment about how that was the best money that we’d ever spent. Back in this era the mattresses had to be turned every few weeks and now we hear they don’t have to be turned. That would be nice because flipping this behemoth can be a wrestling match.
