The worst consumer decision I have ever made was to buy the SAM bed from Kevin at Comfort Direct for $1,500. I filed a complaint with the NY Attorney General’s Office in June, but am still awaiting a response.
This may help you with your decision- I am a former television consumer and investigative news producer. I ordered the SAM bed because I was desperate. My body hurt and I was having trouble sleeping. When the SAM bed was several weeks late in arriving, I got worried and began searching the web. Accidentally, I stumbled upon epinions and discovered, to my horror, that lots of people did not like Kevin or his company. From my experience, as a consumer producer I have found when there are several consumer complaints, usually many other people are unhappy too.
I called Kevin and tried to stop delivery of the bed and point blank told him what I’d read. He assured me others were just jealous of his success, and I’d have no trouble returning the bed for any reason if dissatisfied and gave me his personal guarantee as head of the company–which from my experience is worthless.
My gut said DO NOT BUY this bed, but did I listening to myself? No I had to find out the expensive, hard way!!! In my opinion, Kevin lacks integrity and will tell you anything to get you to buy and keep his product—he is out for money alone and not customer satisfaction. He could careless about you or me.
Now the facts:
I bought the bed because I have a lot of body aches and pains and was desperate. I figured if Christopher Reeves slept on it and teaching hospitals were touting it, it must by good. Remember Christopher Reeves, however, had no feeling from the neck down. I do.
The fact is the bed was too hard for me. My hips and shoulders hurt. It wasn’t until my partner started complaining about his shoulders too that I realized it was the bed and not me. By then it was at the end of the trial period. I called Kevin and asked for an extension. He said that he would work with me, extend the guarantee and I could return the bed if dissatisfied.
My partner and I tried his suggestions to make the bed softer, but we couldn’t rectify the problem. That’s when Kevin quit taking my calls; put me on interminable hold, refused to give me directions on how to return the bed, etc.
The bed is now boxed up in my garage. I will sell it cheap, with no guarantee.
I have since tried two other beds from a local mattress retailer, who has been just great. The first bed was too soft, so he let me try another one, and this last Spring Air with a Latex topper is wonderful.
MY ADVICE
*DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT BUY from Kevin at Comfort Direct no matter what he tells you!
*Do no assume if a bed is used by a celebrity with a different condition than your own, that it will work for you.
*Do not buy a mattress without being able to lay on it first.
*Buy from a local, reputable mattress dealer who will take back the bed if you don’t like it, give you the chance to try another one, and who will give you a full money back guarantee and honor it if you’re not satisfied.
Oh! How I wish I had taken my own advice and listened to others on epinions who wrote about their terrible experiences with this company. Save yourself insomnia; it’s too late for us….
