I will start by saying this mattress and foundation are very good products and deliver as advertised. I chose the Opulance model over the lesser choices because I have had back spasms and associated back problems that resisted change throughout the time using a traditional coil mattress and box spring combination. My wife has a hip condition and similar issues of pain and discomfort and so we were considering relief first and comfort second. My wife and I checked what is currently available on the market and toured the local specialty stores. The choices available in today’s market, in sleep products, are mind boggling and amazing!
There are traditional coil spring mattresses and all sorts of flotation devices and combinations thereof and there is the choice of different types and styles of foam (and if you’re reading this, you already know) Anyway, for all practical purposes, and to suit our particular situation, the choice boiled down to Temper-Pedic.
And there’s the rub. Who can, outside of those of us fortunate to not have to consider budgetary constraints, afford the top of the line models in Tempur-pedic?
I have to say up front that the Bergad products we purchased are very good. I can’t speak for the foundation as such because it is, of course, covered by fabric and so… concealed. But it seems to fit the bill and support the mattress. But I can speak for the mattress (medium firm and very comfortable). My wife and I have been using the product for the past few weeks and have found it to work wonders as far as relieving back pain (the foam gives in all the right places and adds support that I wouldn’t have believed possible in a sleep product). I still have issues with back pain but not anything like what was going on before. The spasms have lessened and I can now realize good nights sleep (an impossibility using the more traditional coil spring type mattress). And as for my wife’s hip problem, it has become far less of a problem and she can now obtain a solid and restful nights sleep.
But the mattress did take some getting use to (and I even had doubts as to whether I made a mistake in purchasing). I initially found the mattress hard and unyielding and akin to slumbering on a slab of rubber. In addition, there is the cosmetic side of things. The foam is plainly layered and even overlaps in the cuts! You can feel where someone was not overly accurate with whatever device they use to trim the layers of the finished product. But that’s okay because we’re talking big savings here. Another consideration is that this product in not like the Temper-pedic in regard to initial comfort. There isn’t really a comparison (and keep in mind that we are reviewing the product that is second from top of the line). All the Tempur-pedic models seem to have an initial softer feel. But that’s really okay. My wife and I were after a moderately firm surface and the Isoform has that. And you do feel comfort within a minute or so after sinking into the foam (but comfortably not sinking too much).
That said, I consider the purchase a solid move toward realizing a good night’s sleep and relieving the discomfort of back pain that I have suffered for years. Also, this mattress is a great bargain, when considering it against the competitive brand.
The downside is customer service. The folks at Bergad are polite and very helpful over the phone (when you can reach the party you want after purchasing the product). They seem gracious and willing to please. But you have to be patient and wary and stick to your guns. I live in the Boston area of Massachusetts (not that difficult a jaunt when you consider an almost straight line trip from their factory in PA). But the delivery process took the better part of three weeks. No really big deal there (one holiday inside that three week period).
What is a big deal is contacting the company over and over and over to receive the goods that were offered along with the purchase. It seems (from reading other reviews) that it is fairly standard practice to receive (at no additional charge) leg pillows and Queen pillows (or other size as the case may be). But please folks: Try and send the products with the initial delivery or, at the very least, please send them without anyone having to call and request them!
It was a long time coming for a partial shipment of those items and then there was no other shipment or notice of shipment and no response to queries. And so, a formal complaint was filed. That complaint accomplished what phone calls and E-mails would not. I received the remainder of the products within a week.
The product is as stated and working to satisfaction of all. And I would not hesitate to recommend the product to anyone in need of a good nights sleep. But do stay on top of the service and delivery end of things. I find no ill intention on anyone’s part. But we are talking products purchased over the phone and Paid in Full and before receipt of merchandise. And that is always a scary proposition. That said, the folks at Bergad do seem to be very nice people and they make one heck of a product.
