If you are wondering where a Select Comfort store is located check your local mall. This is how I first found out Select Comfort even existed. I had never heard of it until I walked past it while shopping one day. I must have walked by it hundreds of times before I even noticed it was there. I had just started shopping for mattresses at other places that week so maybe that’s why it finally caught my attention.
When I walked into the store the first thought that came to my head was that these beds had normal, regular springs inside of them. Then I noticed that each of them had remotes attached. It was then that my curiosity got the best of me. The salesperson came and offered to give me a demonstration on what the bed did and how it worked. I accepted and by the end of demo I was sold. This was no ordinary bed. Each side of mattress could be adjusted to be firmer or softer. To me this meant that I could finally have the soft mushy bed that I have always wanted and that my husband could have the firm bed that he’s always wanted. Forget shopping for other beds, I knew this one would be perfect for my husband and I.
Select Comfort has 4 different styles to choose from. I actually went back a few weeks ago to buy some new pillows and found that all the names of the different models have changed. They said they changed the names of them because they wanted people to be more aware that these beds are adjustable, not normal spring beds. By giving the different models names with numbers it makes people realize the number concept. The lowest end now is called the 3000 Series. It used to be called the Classic. It then goes up to the 4000 Series, which used to be called the Elite, then the 5000, which used to be called the Ultra, and then the 7000 series, which used to be called the Imperial.
I decided to go with a king size Ultra(5000) Pillowtop set. In my opinion it felt better than the Imperial(7000). Surprisingly the Imperial(7000) was about $1000 more. I also found it to be the best value out of all of them.
One thing really nice that Select Comfort offers is their mattress pads. They have really nice ones. They aren’t regular, thin mattress pads. They’re nice, thick and smooth feeling. I chose the Imperial mattress pad. I would really recommend anyone buying one of these beds to go for one of these. It was a little bit expensive but the quality seemed very good. I think today it was worth the money.
I received my bed in about 6 days from when my order was placed. The mattress and foundation came in about 6 boxes. The only thing I worried about when I ordered this was putting it together. I am not the greatest at following directions so I was figured it would take me awhile to figure out. Well, I impressed myself. I ended up having the bed set up in about 1 hour. A couple of the boxes were slightly heavy but I managed and I am not that strong.
The first night I set my side to 30 and my husband set his side to 50. Now you are probably wondering what that means. Each side of the bed has a remote that can be adjusted to a number between 0 and 100. 100 is the firmest and 0 is the softest. After playing with the controls for a couple of nights our settings changed. I now like my side at 20 and my husband likes his side at 45. We really like different settings and that’s why this bed is great. We can each have what we want. I was actually surprised that my husband liked his side that soft. He had always said that he liked a really firm bed. After experiencing with one of these he now realizes he was wrong.
The main thing I like about this bed is the way it conforms right to me. I feel like I’m on a cloud or something. It’s incredible. On my old bed I would wake up with sore shoulders and hips. Sometimes I would even wake up from a tingly feeling in my arms from them falling asleep. Now when I sleep on my side I don’t feel as much pressure in that area and my arms don’t fall asleep. It’s great. In Select Comfort’s magazine they say that these beds help people with back pain. I can honestly see why. I really feel like I am getting the support and comfort that I need.
The only con I can really think of is the price. At first I thought that $1900 was a bit expensive. After shopping around at a couple places that week though I realized that I was going to have to spend at least $1500 to get a good bed set. Spending under that was only going to get me junk that wouldn’t last in the long run. Why not spend a little more and get something I liked that had quality and value that was going to last a lot longer. It just made sense.
All of Select Comfort’s beds come with a trial period. You actually get to test one of these out at home to make sure you will like it. That was another idea that sold me. I wouldn’t be stuck with it if I hated it. These beds also come with a huge 20 year warranty. Most companies out there only offer a 10 year.
Select Comfort also offers a referral program that I have taken advantage of. For every person you send in who buys a bed you get a $50 gift certificate to Select Comfort. I’ve referred 4 friends who have bought one. They all love theirs also. Overall, I think this bed was well worth the money.

After having this bed for about 2 years I have noticed something I don’t like. The pillowtop has severely flattened and bunched. I recently called their customer service and they sent me a replacement for free. The only thing is this is a one time free replacement. If this happens to me again it will cost me about $500. I was told by the salesperson that the warranty covered things like this. It’s a bit disappointing to know this is not true.
