We purchased the Simmons BackCare® Ultimate Supreme St. Moritz in Cal. King from our local Bon Marche Furniture Gallery in February of 2000 and had it delivered to our new home in April of 2000. Being what we considered a major purchase, we wanted a bed that would provide the best support and long-term durability possible. We both have had life-changing back injuries, he having just recovered from back surgery ten months prior, and we are both overweight, he is 6′5″ and 270 lbs, and I am 5′6″ and 220 lbs. It was very important to us to purchase a quality product.
We had shopped around at other stores within a 70-mile radius of our home, but found that most of the beds available were pillow-top models that did not offer the firmness we were looking for, and very few in Cal King. That’s when we found the Simmons BackCare® Ultimate Supreme at the Bon. The sales associate seemed very knowledgeable about this 10-year warranty sleep system. We were not only impressed with how the mattress felt when we stretched out on it in the store, we were also impressed with the knowledge that the Simmons BackCare® is recommended by the National Foundation for Spinal Health.

We were thrilled with the height of the bed (29″ high including standard bed frame) since we both tend to be on the tall side. The only thing we did not consider back then was how difficult it would be to find deep pocket Cal. King sheets. It took a good year before I could find blankets, a comforter and bed skirt that would fit adequately.
The first year found us very happy with our purchase. Despite our injuries, we were able to get rested sleep and felt great when we got up in the morning. We are both of the opinion that if we pay a little more, purchase a quality product and take care of it; it will serve us for many years. We diligently turned and/or flipped the mattress (it took both of us) every time we changed the linens—not an easy task with a Cal. King mattress and a ceiling fan above the bed—even with the convenient fabric handles on both sides. Despite our care, the mattress began to develop ruts (both sides) where we slept.
Due to other things happening in our lives, we stuck with this bed longer than we should have. Now at a little over four years old, the breakdown of the mattress and box springs is at an unacceptable level and very uncomfortable to sleep on. We both wake up in agony after sleeping on this bed. We have resigned ourselves to the fact that we are looking at buying a new bed even though we have had this one for less than half its warranted 10-year life.
Thankfully, we left all the tags intact, so our warranty is still good according to Simmons, who advised returning to the store where we purchased the system. We contacted the Bon Marche (now known as Bon Macy’s) Furniture Gallery regarding the 10-year warranty two months ago and still have not reached an acceptable resolution—fact of the matter is, it has been an absolute fiasco. I am appalled at the lack of professionalism and customer service the personnel have exhibited during this time—but that is the subject of another review.
Bottom line, with our first-hand (and unbiased) experience with the 5 Zones for your Bones™ Simmons BackCare® Ultimate Supreme sleep system, we cannot recommend purchasing this bed—unless of course, you do not mind replacing your 10-year bed every 2 years or less at $1500.00 a pop.
