I was shocked to look at the epinions rating for the Select Comfort Imperial ratings and see that only 33% recommend it. This is the best thing I could ever imagine sleeping on. How could someone not like it!
Before buying the Select Comfort Imperial model, I owned their Ultra model. We slept on a queen size, but we moved to a new place with a bigger bedroom, and I wanted a king size. I didn’t deal with the woman who sold me my Ultra (read the ultra review to see why), but went to the new mall on the west side of town (this time with the wife’s approval). I received excellent customer service and all my questions about the difference between models were answered in no time.
I was once again quoted a two week delivery time and once again Select Comfort made me happy by getting it there before schedule. I was told this time that every Select Comfort mattress is made to order. This way, they will not have to sit in a warehouse with stuff crawling on them and growing in them. Select Comfort is also in charge of everything from design to manufacture to sales to aftercare customer service. The bed is also made in the USA!
It took a little bit more work to set up the Imperial mattress than it took with the Ultra, but the ease of assembly of the new foundation more than made up for it. I must also add that the way the bed is shipped, it can be assembled in the room you want it. You do not have to worry about getting a mattress up the stairs or around a corner. You can take it up one box at a time. Try moving a king size innerspring mattress up a flight of stairs by yourself.
The first night I slept on the Imperial I was so impressed that they could even make anything that felt better than the Ultra. I couldn’t believe that it was actually worth the price difference. If you don’t know the difference between the two models, here they are:
The Ultra used a cotton/rayon material with a polyester fill in the pillowtop. The Imperial used a rayon with a cashmere fill. Natural fibers breath better and for someone like myself who is always hot, I noticed a difference immediately.
The Ultra used a foam layer under the pillowtop. The Imperial uses three layers. Layer one is called thermofoam. If you watch the late night infomercials you have probably seen the pillow that takes your body heat and leaves your handprint in it. This stuff is in this bed. Layer two is a zone foam. It is soft where you need it and firm under your back where you need support. Layer three is a cut foam that lets air circulate around your body and helps me from overheating. My wife says it would be great for a woman with hot flashes.
OK, so I sleep on this bed and I say I love it. Here’s why:
You don’t have to flip and turn your mattress. If you think it feels like it’s sagging, press a button and it’s not anymore.
The layers of foam cause the mattress to hug your body even more than the Ultra. It is as if the bed was made specifically for you. They also don’t tend to overheat and cause a quicksand feeling like the Tempurpedic bed I tried at a local furniture store.
The mattress is rayon and with the same cotton mattress pad it breathes even better and I definitely don’t overheat. Same word of advice: check out Select’s dual zone heated mattress pad for the winter. They adjust individually just like the beds. My side is off and the wife’s side is set to max heat.
You cant fit this one in the back of a Chevy Malibu, but it will fit in the back of an Escape. Try that with a king size Uglyrest.
STILL NO MORE BACK PAIN! Since it supports you, you feel better in the morning.

I have honestly not found any serious issues I don’t care for. I do regret buying the cordless remote though. I keep losing it. My advise is to get the corded and keep them on your night table or hang them from the headboard.
