The summer of 2002 is a summer I will never forget. We bought our first bed.
During the weekend of August 9th, we decided to go shopping for a bed. Now, as comfortable as I made the Coleman Queen Comfortsmart Air Bed sound, I was so glad to hear we were going to get a real bed. So, we went to Sadler’s, a furniture store in Anchorage, and began looking for a bed.
Our salesman, Dustin, was quite patient and very helpful. I’ll be honest, there were so many different designs to choose from it was close to impossible. He asked us what we were looking for in a mattress, if either of us had back problems, and a whole bunch of questions. All the beds seemed to look alike to me, so the best way to find our bed was to actually lie down on them. But we knew that we wanted a Queen size bed. So, he lead us over to the Queen sizes and he immediately lead us to the WorldClass Medalist Xtra Plush Pillow Top Mattress, and we began our test.
As soon as my back hit the bed, it was as if it was made for me - instant comfort. Oh man, did this bed ever feel so good. It had the right combination of softness and firmness; it was like slipping into your favorite pair of slippers. What was also sweet about this particular bed was that it was an Olympic® Queen mattress. Dustin explained that it’s six inches wider than a traditional queen, and provides 10% more room. It offers the same comfort as a regular queen, but it’s roomier and not exactly a King-size mattress. He did let us know that if we had a bed frame, the Olympic® Queen would fit on a standard Queen size mattress, however, we’d have to purchase special sheets to accommodate the Olympic® Queen. We were instantly hooked, made our purchase and we were on our way.
I thought the air mattress looked big in our room - this bed was humongous!!!. I couldn’t believe it. I remember thinking, “It didn’t look that big in the showroom.” But she looked so good in our room. We decided to try our regular Queen bedding to see if it would fit and it fit like a glove.
That night, I had such a good night’s sleep, I felt like I was transported to another world. I felt very comfortable and I’m a light sleeper, so the slightest movement will wake me. If there was movement, I didn’t even notice. That bed was just amazing.

Overall Thoughts
In my opinion, Simmons offers a great selection of beds for all sleep types. The Beautyrest WorldClass Medalist Xtra Plush Pillow Top Mattress offers comfort, it looks good and you get great nights of sleep. This was such an awesome bed. I had many restful nights and many days when I would just lounge on the bed. It was always the topic of discussion when company visited us. I miss it.
