When I was in my University residences, I slept on the mattresses that the campus residences provided me. After about 3 years of sleeping, basically on the same mattress. I started to feel lower back pain. As I gained weight every year since I first came to America for university, my old mattress in the residences became less and less comfortable for me. By the time I had lower back pain, I started to consider investing physiotherapy, but I find it rather too expensive and unpractical due to my busy academic schedule. When I first saw the TV infomercial about the Aerobed, I decided to order the air mattress by telephone. I have considered certain other choices such as having a buckwheat pillow for my lower back and legs, but it doesn”t really help, because the mattress that I happened to sleep on in my university residence was just too limp. I chose to stay with this mattress, was that within a few nights of using the Aerobed, I felt the immediate effect of sleeping on a firm mattress and I no longer face homesickness due to the limp mattress.
Ordering
The size that I ordered the mattress happens to be a twin sized, because of the bed at my university dorm happened to have twin mattresses on their bed as well. The quality is just as good as those foam mattresses where it”s firm enough to actually support my weight without sinking into the mattress.
Features
The extra features in this mattress includes a inflation motor, that inflates the mattress by air in under one minute, so that you can have comfortable a bed in one go, not like one of those conventional air mattresses that require manual pumping, where it could take up to one hour to pump the bed and usually requires swapping people once in a while. The quick release valve on the side of the bed allows the user to actually deflate the bed in just less than 10 seconds, before rolling the mattress away. With the handy duffel bag that is provided with every Aerobed, it only takes up only 15% of most folding beds at the same size, when folded. This is ideal if you live in an apartment, condo or even in a very small closet space. With the one-touch comfort controls beside the motor, it allows the user to adjust the firmness of the mattress. This is a feature only found in electrically adjustable mattresses that could cost a few thousand dollars. But the motor requires a power source and therefore the mattress should be placed only near an electrical outlet, which can be inconvenient, even if people have to fiddle with extension cords.
Present
After almost two years of use in the mattress, there is no defect on the motor, and the mattress itself. Therefore it”s durable like what the infomercial said, due to the heat seamed PVC vinyl. The material is good, because I”m also allergic to the allergens around the house, particularly with dust mites. This is because dust mites only thrive in fabric-based mattresses and its fibers can catch dust and allergens, therefore triggering dust mite population growth. In addition, once fabric-based mattresses can absorb stains, it can breed bacteria and it can start to create odors. With the PVC, since it”s water resistant it can clean easily with just a towel. Sleeping on the mattress is also very comfortable and it very well compares to the most comfortable First Class full flat beds in an airliner. It”s basically a mattress that helps me avoid tossing, which is a nightmare for me with my mattress in my university residence, which caused me to acquire insomnia.
What I didn”t like
What I didn”t like about the mattress was that it was rather short, at only about 5.5 feet (66 inches) in length; it makes my feet hang off the edge. To compensate, I had to scrunch my legs just to get the feet on the mattress and I prefer to have my legs straight while I”m sleeping. This is because, I wanted to keep the proper blood flow in the legs and relax them a little. If this mattress were another foot longer, then this would have been a perfect mattress.
