Tempur-Pedic Swedish Mattress

Reviews

I like it.

Positive Worth the money.
Cons: Cost a lot.

I have owned mine for three years. I like it. Most house guests do like it. Some do not. It is in the same condition today as the day I received it. It weighs a lot and requires two people to move it as it flows like sand when you try to carry it.

Mine is a queen size matress that lies on top of the bed slats. This prevents the hammock complaints.

If I sleep on it for more than 9 hours I wake up with a sore back other wise I feel great.

Updated. It is now 28Jan05 and I still love this matress more than the day I got it!

1nov06 still love it so does my wife

Feb08 still like new!

RHAPSODY VERSUS EUROBED–HELP!

Positive For those wanting a slightly soft mattress, the Rhapsody bed would be wonderful.
Cons: With time, these beds soften considerably. Get one that’s one step firmer than you want.

I got the Rhapsody a month ago, and at first it was heavenly–no more being awakened by lower back pain. But as the bed is getting broken in, it is becoming so much softer than when it was brand new that I am once again starting to wake up with back pain. (I’m a fairly small woman, so I don’t think I’m crushing the bed.) Last night I went to a different mattress store, where the Tempur-Pedic floor models are broken in (not the case where I bought my bed, where all the floor models were new), and I found that a broken-in Eurobed (the firmest model made) feels the way the Rhapsody did when it was brand new. I am starting to wonder if I should do an exchange. For now, I have rotated the mattress so I can return, for a few weeks, anyway, to sleeping pain-free. I just wish I had known how differently my bed would feel after getting broken in. If anyone out there can provide an opinion on how the Eurobed feels after a few weeks or months, I’d be very grateful.

Sore Back from this Mattress.

Positive Small claims court works !!!
Cons: Sore back from this mattress after 6 months.

This mattress gave me (and my wife) a sore back. We tried everything the customer service center said to do (even sleeping with it on the floor for 5 months). Then we stayed at a hotel and the sore backs went away (and so the story ends expensive lesson).

We bought it at Brookstone since they have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. We had to take them to court to get our refund as they tried to change their policy for mattresses, but the receipt was the killer evidence as it shows no distinction for mattresses.

Avoid Tempurpedic (and Brookstone) unless you want a sore back and a headache in making returns.

MY PAIN IS WORSE!

Positive Felt good in the store and for the first few weeks
Cons: Hurts my back, neck spine very, very much. The heat. The price

We purchased the bed about a year ago, on the raving recommendation of several friends. I have several back and hip conditions which are very painful and I thought this bed would help. My pain has only increased over the last year. After going on several trips and staying in hotels, I noticed that I felt much better sleeping in the hotel beds. We just got back from a few days away and I felt terrific. So now, I’m sleeping in the guest room until I figure out what to replace it with

I absolutely hate that we spent so much money on this bed. Also it does heat up and we hate that also.

Worst mattress ever made

Positive None
Cons: Too stiff, extremely uncomfortable, too expensive, causes back pain

My sister-in-law and her husband purchased one of these beds about 2 years ago. I was intrigued at first because of the ads I saw on TV, and soon found them to be completely false. This was by far the most uncomfortable mattress I had ever had the misfortune to lay upon. It was extremely stiff, and after a short time, my back hurt worse than before I laid on it. I have arthritis in my spinal cord, and this did not help it in any way. I feel sorry for anyone who chooses this brand as it is a waste of good money that could be better spent on a better quality mattress. A large piece of foam is a horrible idea of a mattress. My water bed that I had was so much more comfortable and relaxing. I guess the old saying “Don’t believe everything that you see on television.” Boos to TempurPedic for such poor quality.

Most Horrible Experience of my life

Positive Honestly there is no Pro
Cons: Causes pain,VERY uncomfortble took 3 MONTHS for delivery Rude costumer service, Bulls*** warranty,

I use to work at Brookstone, and I even fell for the sales pitch. Since we got an employee discount I jumped at the opportunity. I’ve had it for 6 months now, and it is a nightmare. I am only 21, and have had no previous back pain, that is prior to this mattress. I wake up every night severel times with horrible back aches, and the morning is even worse. It hurts for hours in the morning, shooting pain from all of my newly developed pressure points. The gimic said that it relieved the pressure points along your back, but it made my body discover them. And i’m not the only one, I share the bed with my husband and he is experiencing the same horrible pain. Also this bed is extremly uncomfortable as a side sleeper. I’ve had to change my sleeping posistion to back only so the pain isn’t as suffer in the morning. I advise anyone who is looking into this, to steer clear and go for the good old spring mattress.

Tempur-Pedic Mattress causes sleepless nights!

Positive Comfortable firmness.
Cons: The temperature of the “Tempur”-Pedic mattress rises over time, resulting in discomfort.

We have tried everything to “cool down” our Tempur-Pedic mattress, but have decided to give up the fight. My wife and I wake up in the middle of the night nearly every night due to the increasing temperature of our mattress, which rises in temperature in response to our body heat. We have an air conditioned house, and we keep our bedroom very cool at night (much cooler since we have had this mattress, in an effort to “cool it down”). We find it comfortable, initially, but it just gets too hot in a matter of hours. We have had many sleep deprived nights - both of us, and have decided to sell (give away?) our Tempur-Pedic Mattress.

Not impressed

Positive Can’t think of any after 5 years
Cons: Sore backs; mattress extremely heavy, so hard to make.

We loved it at first, but after 5 years there is too much softening and we wake up with aching lower backs. It doesn’t sag enough to trigger the warranty, so we feel as though we made a very expensive mistake.

big mistake

Positive people will be impressed with your bed.
Cons: I wake up every morning in pain.

I couldn’t wait to get my Tempur-Pedic. In fact, I was able to buy a bigger sized one even after the trial period had ended for just the difference in price. Big mistake.

For some reason there wasn’t any overt problem during the free “try-out” window. Well, there sure is now. I wake up with all kinds of lower back ache. I experience the same pain even while laying in bed reading….after 5-10 minutes. I can’t figure out why this situation didn’t reveal itself earlier, when I could have sent it back. The company wouldn’t budge an inch when I asked to return my mattress “too late”. My chiropractor says he’s heard of other complaints about the T-P. Apparently my opinion is in the minority, but it is what it is. I’m just trying to figure out a way I can recoup some of the money I spent on my “premiere” bed. Anybody want a very slightly used mattress ?

Temporary-pedic

Positive Nothing.
Cons: Does not work as advertised, very expensive, unknowledgable salespeople.

When I first bought this mattress, I thought it was great. Six months later, I can barely stand to sleep on it and have switched back to a conventional / firm mattress which is MUCH better for my back.

I was diagnosed with spinal arthritis last year and bought the mattress partially because of that. However, it has only worsened the condition. Now I sleep on a regular mattress and feel much better.

Best mattress I ever had!

Positive super comfy, can’t feel movements of others
Cons: if it gets too cold the mattress tends to be a bit hard

I have had a King size Tempur-pedic mattress for a little over a year now. This is THE BEST mattress I have ever had. Everything they claim is true. It is expensive, but also has a great warranty. If anyone has problems sleeping or a back problems I highly recommend this bed. My husband always tossed & turned all night (keeping me up in the process) since the Tempur-pedic arrived he hasn’t had any problems sleeping.

Don’t buy into the hype

Positive none
Cons: everything from mattress to customer support.

I bought the SolutionBed from Tempur Pedic. This bed was designed to help people with back pain. Well, now I have to sleep on my old sagging mattress to releave the additional pain this bed caused. The mattress doesn’t support your body as advertised. Once you buy one, read the warranty. It clearly states that the mattress will lose its support over time and will become softer and softer. I called their customer support line complaining about the pain and the softness of the bed. They said once the bed is in used for 2-3 months, that is when the softness starts occurring. So much for that “like new” feeling for years and years. they won’t take my mattress back or exchange because there is not an OBVIOUS sag in the mattress. Now I stuck with this piece of crap bed. Trust me, you will regret it if you pay $3K for a bed that doesn’t do as advertised. It’s all HYPED. So be careful.

Like the Mattress

Positive Comfortable, cozy, easy to sleep on.
Cons: Don’t have any yet.

After suffering for the last few years on a Sealy Posturepedic, we took the plunge and bought a Tempur-Pedic Deluxe king size mattress and foundation. My parents have had one for several years and are very happy with it. Since we have not had it for a full week yet, this is an early evaluation. First night was wonderful!! Haven’t slept thru the night in a long time because of tossing and turning. Second morning–I woke up with a backache. However, the remainder of the nights have been good. I attribute the backache to something else, and no longer the bed. I am expecting many more restful nights!

However, I would suggest purchasing from an Ebay retailer, as we did. Saved $933 by NOT going with Tempur-Pedic or the local mattress store. (you can contact me for the e-mail of the person I purchased from) Ordered it on a Monday and it arrived on Friday. Warranty included. So there is no one to set it up—big deal. I really don’t like anyone else in my bedroom anyway. My husband and son had no problem setting it up.

I will update in a few weeks.

GREAT MATTRESS

Positive Great night’s sleep awaits you!
Cons: nothing–although it is expensive

We’ve had a King Size tempurpedic mattress for a little over a year and love it. When it arrived it was literally frozen and took a good day to unthaw–which was weird–kinda like a pool table!

Once it thawed out it was and still is awesome. They say that it relieves pressure points and it is true. I find that I turn over less than with my old mattress which is great.

This mattress is very firm and also very soft at the same time, which is kinda hard to describe.

Another good thing is that it comes with a cover that zips over the mattress which also protects it. You never turn this mattress over–another good thing.

The Kings with the base is expensive–but worth it.

Comfort won’t last long & warranty won’t help

Positive Easy to cut into pieces when you throw it away in three years
Cons: Won’t last very long. VERY expensive considering its usable life / Warranty won’t help you.

We have owner a King Tempurpedic mattress for five years, and my wife and I were very happy with it (she called it the “magic bed”) until about two years ago, when we noticed it had begun to lose its “rebound” qualities, and we found ourselves sinking right through the “memory foam”, and into the middle layer - which is what you used to sleep on in summer camp (for those of you never went to summer here’s a hint: not comfortable).

I had the same experience as others when I investigated returning it - the warranty doesn’t cover the problem I encountered because the indentation Tempurpedic wants owners to measure is (1. a pain to measure since you have to wrestle the unwieldy and heavy mattress around to do so, and (2. not likely to be sufficient in depth to satisfy their requirements.

We LOVE our Tempur-Pedic!

Positive No pressure points, feels like you are floating when you sleep. Amazingly comfortable!
Cons: None.

This is the best mattress I have ever slept on and I have recommended it to all of our friends. I have back problems and arthritis and was in continual pain sleeping on our old Simmons Beautyrest mattress. We decided to give the Tempur-Pedic a try, and it was the best move we ever made! We have had it for 2.5 years now, and it is just a comfortable as ever–no softening or indentations of the foam. It does take a bit to warm up in the winter, but that isn’t a problem for us–we like a cool room for sleeping, anyway. We do not find it to be hot in the summer, either.

It did smell when it first arrived, but that was gone after about a week.

We both have the Tempur-Pedic pillows, also, and I worry about dust mites. Is it possible to wash the pillows?

20 year warranty is great

Positive Extremely comfortable as it conforms to your body and the motionless aspect is absolutely true
Cons: Not a one

This is the best mattress we have had or ever will have. Even our guest room is equipped with a set. We contacted Tempur-Pedic about a squeaky foundation, not knowing whether that would be covered or not. It was and, once we faxed them a copy of our sales receipt of 3 years ago, we had a new foundation delivered and set up within 7 to 10 days at no cost whatsoever. Our love affair with Tempur-Pedic began with their pillows and has grown into many other products they offer. Staying in a hotel is sheer torture, how spoiled we are.

Second most uncomfortable bed we’ve had…

Positive There aren’t any pros, at least none that we’ve found.
Cons: We hate this bed, it’s hard and uncomfortable.

Clunky and hard to move, definitely need help when you want to turn/flip the mattress. Otherwise, the body of it is fine.

Tempur-pedic….NOT Recommended

Positive Warm in the winter; easy on the shoulders and knees
Cons: Little lower back support; difficult to move on; hot in the summer months

I’m 17 months in with my Tempur-pedic. I’ve had almost daily lower back pain since the very first night I started sleeping on it. It’s the kind of pain that used to bother me maybe once or twice every couple of years. I finally had my back seen about just this past week, and I asked the doctor his opinion on beds. I did not let him know the kind of bed I had. He said, “Tempur-pedic is the absolute worst bed for backs…” I followed up that exam with a second opinion. I asked the same question and heard the same response. I am extremely disappointed as I spent almost $2100 on this bed. Unfortunately, back pain is not covered under the conditions of the warranty.

Worst Mattress We Had

Positive You don’t tell the movement of the person who is sleeping next to you.
Cons: Horrible customer service !!

This is the worst mattress we have ever slept on.

Despite of the expensive price and nicely made TV commercial, I would wake up and get out of bed because of the back pain. I hardly had good night sleep while we had Tempur-Pedic mattress.

My husband either. He eventually started sleeping on the couch instead of the mattress.

After 2 months, nothing changed so we returned it.

Beware!

The customer service at Tempur-Pedic is helpless !

They know nothing about the customers’ account and could cause troubles with your financing plan.

If you’d like to purchase the mattress anyways,

don’t buy directly from them.

Buy from the local retailer.

Now we sleep on Serta Perfect Sleeper Eurotop and absolutely love it.

It is so comfortable we can sleep longer ( I couldn’t sleep more than 5 hours on Tempur-Pedic ) with no back pain !!

I love Serta !!

Didn’t Work For Me

Positive Appears to be very durable.
Cons: Very little give to the mattress, in other words, as hard as a rock.

A couple of years ago, we were in the market for a new mattress and were considering Tempur-Pedic after all the hype on radio and TV. We couldn’t find anywhere to test one, but fortunately for us, a relative bought one (I think they paid around $2k)and let us test it while we were visiting. After one night sleeping on it, we said “phooey”!! The bed was EXTREMELY hard and uncomfortable; both my wife and myself woke up with terrific backaches. It was sort of like sleeping on hard-packed sand. I was led to believe that the foam shapes itself to the individual’s body shape, but I was appalled at the lack of support, no matter what position I slept in. It is true that the mattress doesn’t transmit movement, but that is the only plus. We ended up buying a Select Comfort (Sleep Number) bed that has been fantastic; after over two years, there have been NO issues with air leaks.

So far so good - actually “Perfect”

Positive Significant increase in REM sleep.
Cons: Bed at first slept “Hot”. That has been resolved.

Its been a month since we first laid down on our Tepur-Pedic matress. King size - celebrity model with full heigth foundation.

Observastions to=date:

1. Increased REM sleep (both wife an I). We both consider this good - as a night of good REM sleep makes us both feel refreshed in the AM.

2. I will still (on occasion) wake up during the middle of the nigt. My time awake has been significantly reduced - I find it much easier to fall back asleep

3. Minor manufacturning odor was present only for the 1st week. We took no measures to help remove the odor - it left on its own after a week.

4. Maybe it was ’suggestion’ (from reading other postings), but we did find the bed ’slept hot’. So we redueced the amount of blankets which solved the immediate problem. Interesting however isthat today we are back to using the same amount of covers as before.

Bottom line: This has,so far, proven to be one of the most wise investments my wife and I have made.

Please Consider Our Experience!

Positive Very comfortable for the first night or two.
Cons: You have to be wealthy enough to purchase a new one every few nights.

My wife and I were practically high fiving eachother after the first night of sleep. This mattress was the bomb! We actually wanted to take naps during the day just to get more of that precious deep restful sleep. Then, it was like the thing turned on us and suddenly, the foam had broken down to be about as supportive as a piece of tofu right in our hip/lower back area where most of your body mass is concentrated (and neither of us is significantly overweight). Last night, I had to lay on the carpet to watch a movie because my lower back hurt so bad I couldn’t sit on the couch. After reading other such reviews here, I can’t help but wonder if the positive ones amongst experiences such as ours are plants from the company. Conspiracy theory anyone? Just like that sign behind Mulder’s desk in the X-files, I Want to Believe- but in the case of the Tempurpedic bed, I just can’t…

TEMPUR - TOTALLY LOVE IT!

Positive Like a commercial says, like sleeping on a cloud
Cons: little pricey

Obviously beds are a very personal preference thing, but the Tempurpedic works 100% for me.

I have owned it for just over a year and it’s by FAR the most comfortable mattress I have EVER slept on.

I will NEVER sleep on a spring mattress again!

Does Not do what they say it’s supposed to do

Positive Pressure relieving
Cons: No support. If you need support don’t buy this mattress. It’s based on a lie.

I have had nothing but frustration with with the tempur-pedic mattress. They claim it releives pressure points while still giving support…this is a lie.

It does relieve pressure points, but DOES NOT GIVE SUPPORT. It amazes me how advertising gets away with lying to the public.

Overpriced and Overrated

Positive Slightly more comfortable than concrete.
Cons: Price; comfort

I purchased this mattress 8 months ago. At no stage during that time could I claim to have had a wonderful sleep. On overage I wake every couple of hours and generally wake up with very sore neck and shoulders. I sleep on my side and find the Tempur marginally more comfortable than sleeping on concrete.

I have persisted with the hope, that I may adjust to the mattress, but there has been no improvement. I notice that in the US there seems to be a 90 day money back guarantee - unfortunately this is not the case in Australia. I paid more than $3000 Australian for Queen size deluxe (20cm) version of this overrated mattress.

I had better sleep on the 5 year old futon I had previously - a bargain for $200.

I would warn people to be very cautious before they consider purchasing this mattress. I believe the only thing it succeeds in is marketing - I fell for it!

Tempurpedic should not be sold to anyone with a back problem.

Positive The mattress is so heavy, it couldn’t possibly move.
Cons: Like sleeping in hot lava. Even when new, has a hammock effect, painful to backs.

On July 18, 2003, I bought a $1,500 Tempurpedic mattress and was lied to about the store’s return policy. The Tempurpedic mattress should never be sold to anyone who has a back problem. There should be a sign required by law that says this. It does conform to your body, according to your body’s temperature, but also according to your body’s mass, thus making your entire body sink into the mattress in a hammock effect. It does not provide any support at all. It does have one good quality, and that is it has no pressure points, and once your body settles in a position you will stay there all night. But for someone who has a back problem, this fact is a disaster. Also, the mattress absorbs your body temperature and this makes it extremely hot to sleep on. It does not ‘breath.’ It is like sleeping in hot lava. When I tried to return the mattress, Tempurpedic could not have been less sympathetic. Their policy is just to sell as many mattresses as they can, and they have no interest or concern regarding the customer’s needs, once the product is sold.

We got sore on it.

Positive Less tossing than on a conventional mattress.
Cons: It takes a while to warm up in winter and get “settled into”.

My wife and I got a Tempur-Pedic as it was supposed to help with back and muscle pains. We tried it for about 30 days. My wife has back problems, this bed made them worse. I had rotator surgery and it made it feel as if I still had a torn cuff. We had no problems retuning it. I guess you’ll just have to try it to see if you like it or not. Bottom line… it didn’t help us and lots of $$$$$.

Painful.

Positive temporary comfort (as in “in the show-room”)
Cons: miserably uncomfortable and causes sleep deprivation over long periods of time

I’ve had this mattress for a year and a half. In the beginning, it seemed like a good investment. I say “investment,” because that’s what it feels like when you spend over 2K for a mattress. After about 3 months, I was starting to realize how bad it was. I have never had low back pain before, but now I do. I can barely move in the mornings, and had attributed it to my aging body and less than perfect fitness routine. Just this past weekend, my husband and I went to the city for a quick getaway and stayed in a nice hotel suite. For the first time in a year, I woke up feeling rested and pain free. Since my eye opening experience this past weekend, I realize that my husband is stiff every morning too, and may just not know it’s because of the bed. He’s willing to replace it, so we will bite the bullet and spend more money on a different mattress. The whole experience has been disappointing.

We love it

Positive Very comfortable.
Cons: None.

We have owned a Tempur mattress for over a year now, and we still love it. Very comfortable (we prefer our mattresses firm however). The mattress is firm, but gives in all the right places, for wonderful support, especially when I sleep on my back.

Originally purchased because our old spring mattress (only five years old), wasn’t working out for my wife who was having back issues. Tried Sleep Number and others and weren’t as comfortable on those as on the Tempur.

We did not purchase the Tempur “box spring” as it was expensive (it is essentially a very firm board), but the cheaper “box spring” that our retailer offered tends to be squeaky, so if you can afford it the lack of squeak may be worth the purchase of the entire set.

WE ARE IN PAIN!!! They better return our money! Grrrr…

Positive haha, are you serious?
Cons: Too expensive, our backs are broken because of this, it smells and it makes noise.

My husband has a bad back, I don’t. So after using my old mattress for many years we decided to buy the temper pedic because of all the hoopla about how you get a great nights sleep and your back pain will dissapear. TOTAL BS. My husband is in agony and I, who have never ever had back pain am in agony too. I wake up feeling like i’m 90 years ols and i’m only 34 and I weigh 120 lbs.

If that isn’t bad enough, the platform makes so much noise that one morning when my husband got out of bed to use the bathroom it made such a loud creeking noise I got so startled thinking the bed had just broken.

And if THAT wasn’t bad enough! It smells.

This bed sucks and i’m mad and cranky cause I haven’t had a good nights sleep.

Wish us luck in getting our money back ASAP!

Only lasted 1-1/2 years

Positive Comfortable for first year and a half
Cons: Saggy after 1-1/2 years, and the warranty is worthless

We’ve had our Queen Tempurpedic Classic bed for only 1-1/2 years and it no longer has support. It was great at first but became softer and softer after a few months. The bed is useless now because where we lay is no longer supportive at all (although the center of the bed between us is still firm). When you push on the mattress where I lay versus at the foot of the bed, you can feel a definite difference. I have horrible back and neck pains from the mattress. The warranty is worthless. The bed is saggy long before there is a a 3/4″ or more depression in the foam. Most beds will last about three years or more but 1-1/2 years for the Tempurpedic is ludicrous!

Tempur-Pedic Classic Queen Bed

Positive Fits every body like glove, Great body support
Cons: Takes a few days to adjust to and its also a warmer bed.

The best bed i’ve ever owned. It’s very comfortable and great for your body. It does take a few nights sleep to adjust to the bed and new beds have a slight smell that didn’t bother me and went away after a few days. It’s given me the best sleep i have had in years. I no longer toss and turn to try and get comfortable. I sleep on my back and side and either way is again very comfortable. You have to buy a mattress cover to warranty protection but the place i bought the bed from threw in 2 of the neck pillows valued at $130.00 for free. I think the final tally was around 2100. So you say wow thats expensive. I paid outright but most stores have payment plans as well. You spend 1/3 of your life sleeping so why not invest a little more in a bed because the restfull rewards are much greater then the cost.

tempurpedic is such a big mistake

Positive I cant think of anything that this bed is good for
Cons: this bed is a heavy, creeking, peice of junk

I bought a tempurpedic mattress about a year ago because of my lower back pain. ever since I owned the bed my back pain has gotten worse and I have sleepless nights. I get awakened every night from the creeking the wooden foundation makes ever time you move around. I have been sent two replacements from tempurpedic, but they are just as bad. Talking to customer service is such a hassle.

I say this bed is a waste of your money. I would have rather spent the money on a trip to mexico and slept on the beach.

Tempur-Pedic Classic

Positive Can’t feel the other person move
Cons: Hot, Back Aches, Foam Smell, Sinking Feeling

Went to trade it in after 60 days. We would have traded it in sooner but the store had an extra fee if you did so before the 60 days.

The first week was hard to get used to but after awhile we slept okay. The mattress is hot where ever your body touches it. We do keep our house warm 78 in the summer but I’ve never experienced being so hot being on the foam.

Our backs ache pretty much the whole 60 days after seeping on it for 7 hours. After 7 hours you want to get up because it is not comfortable to lay there and relax like so many would do on a Saturday morning.

The Foam smell is very bad in the beginning but you expect it to get better and go away. After 60 days there still is a foam smell. Yuck.

I layed on my husbands side and wow, it sinks a lot more than mine which leads me to believe that this mattress is not going to last long.

Glad to get rid of it! Glad the store had a good return policy!

I can sleep again!

Positive better sleep, less back and neck strain
Cons: it took about a week to get used to it

I bought this mattress a about a year ago and still love it. I have had significanlty less back and neck strain and have had a more restful sleep. It is expensive, but it is worth it.

Best Mattress I’ve ever owned!

Positive Comfortable, supportive, relieves pressure points on the spine
Cons: odd smell for first few days, price is high

I was in a terrible car accident in February of ‘07.

I’ve been going through major physical therapy, and found sleeping on my inner-spring Serta mattress was no longer doing what I needed.

Everyone must find a store that has the many models of this bed in stock. I was able to try all of the models, and found the Deluxe model to be the best fit for the comfort and support that I desired.

The bed shop owner wants one himself, but his wife doesn’t care for it, so obviously it’s not for everyone.

It’s VERY important to find the model that fits YOUR comfort and support level. Some models were too soft for me, and some uncomfortably firm.

Coming with a choice of 2 Tempur-pedic pillows, I can honestly say that I fall asleep faster, and rest longer. I really love this mattress!

My own one week experience with Tempur

Positive Slightly more comfortable, warranty
Cons: Expensive, heavy like all others, risk of loosing viscousity

I tried Tempur-Pedic mattress for one week. The feeling in the first day was terrible and both of myself and wife got a back pain but such feeling disappeared in the other days and we felt more comfortable with it .. I think you need to get adapted to it and give it a time to like .. In my opinion, It is a real wonderful mattress for two kind of customers. Those who has a back pain caused by spring coil mattresses and those who want to spend more on their sleeping surfaces. In my case, I found it too much to pay 3 KUSD for a home mattress which I returned and bought another rubber with spring coil mattress from King Koil, and the empression we had experience is very good too. Therefore, unless you do complain from back pain or you want to put money on what might be a good sleeping experience, then you can easily enjoy almost the same sleeping experiences with other good standard mattresses.

A Life Saver

Positive Everything! Comfortable, clean, allergy free, and a back saver!
Cons: None

I went into purchasing the Tempur-Pedic very skeptical…but my wife wanted it, so we bought it. Now I have to say that this is the best purchase that I have EVER made!!!!

I have had back problems for 20 years and have tried water beds, Sealy, Stearns & Foster, etc… but nothing, I repeat NOTHING has ever worked like this. I can go to bed with my back hurting so bad that I can not stand up straight. Within 2 minutes my back is pain free enough to fall asleep and by morning (every single morning!) my back does not hurt and I can begin the day fresh and painless.

This has been a lifesaver for me!!

Lower Back Pain

Positive Very Comfortable
Cons: Lower Back Pains

I have been waking up with severe back pains. I thought it was a dream. After two months my wife ask me if I wake up with lower back pains every morning? I told her yes. We never had lower back pains before. Its a great mattress except for the back pains.

Don’t last for 10 years only 7, top foam looses firmness

Positive Felt good when it was warm weather for the first 7 years.
Cons: Cold weather makes it feel like concrete, then your body heat softens it after awhile.

Mattress firmness lasted only 7 years, then started back and hip problems. Tempur-pedic warrenty is a joke. You have to send them pictures of the problem and fill out a form that makes no since. Then they make an excuse that this will be the the last mattress they send you. I spend over $1450.00 for the mattress. It’s not worth it and I’ll let all I know about the quality and warrenty. I’m a single person and sleep in the bed one an half weeks per month do to heavy travel. I weight 165 lbs. Mattress can’t stand up to it. I bought the mattress because we liked the pillows.

Worth the investment

Positive Support, comfort, 120 days return policy
Cons: Takes a couple weeks to grow on you!

Bought a Deluxe King Size with foundations and pillows. The system works well, but takes getting use too. With the 120 day return policy you really can’t go wrong. Make sure you get the Original and not some copy. We have been through 3 different mattresses from pillow tops to standard and none compare.

I love this bed!

Positive Firm support without being too firm.
Cons: Price.

Well, after months of thinking about it and reading all of the reviews we could find here and elsewhere, we decided to take the plunge and bought the Tempur-Pedic Deluxe. Wow! I have had a couple of car accidents and several surgeries so pain is a constant thing for me - particularly in my hips and lower back. Today is the first day in a VERY long time that I woke up without pain!

4/17/06 - update. What really amazes me is how well I sleep without waking up. I used to wake up three and four times a night. Not anymore. My husband is also sleeping more soundly, and the shoulder that he was having trouble with is finally not paining him.

3/07/07 - update. A year later and still happy! I did discover one thing going through last summer - yes, it gets a bit warm. I fixed that with a waterproof cover we were sold when we bought the mattress; it deflects the heat a bit even though that makes the bed harden a bit. Good compromise though! We’re still very pleased with our purchase - we just wish we’d gotten an adjustable one LOL

Better than we expected

Positive Very comfortable, no rocking & rolling, eases back pain
Cons: Heavy, a little hard to change sheets

We bought a California King at the standard hight about two months ago. We had read many reviews and thought it would take time to get used to the bed. We loved it from night one. We also bought the factory foundation and used a hollywood frame. I weigh 240, my wife is 120. Every time I rolled over or got out of bed my wife went for a roller coaster ride — NO LONGER. We live in a mild area and thought the bed might be too warm, but it hasn’t been. However, we have found that we can use lighter covers. The bed is heavy, but since we don’t have to turn it, that is not a big problem. But, it takes a little effort to change the fitted sheet. My wife found the Tempur-Pedic pillow (standard style) too firm and switch to a feather pillow. I like the Tempur-Pedic pillow. I honestly think I sleep better on this bed. I still wake with some arthritic pains, but not as bad as they used to be. We have found the bed comfortable whether sleeping or not.

Amazingly uncomfortable

Positive It is better than sleeping on the floor.
Cons: They’re like hard mattresses, and it is difficult to turn over. Result–more pain.

I have fibromyalgia and tried a memory foam pad on top of my mattress. This helped me and so I wrongly thought that a Tempur-Pedic bed would be even more comfortable. Their advertisements and the advice of the mattress salesperson were wrong, wrong, wrong!

I toss and turn all night because of pressure point pain. Pulling myself up out of the memory foam “hole” wakes me when I turn over. Despite the fact that it seems soft to the touch, this mattress causes my sleep to be just as bad as sleeping on a hard mattress. In fact, it feels like a hard mattress.

My sleep has been much worse since I bought this mattress and I am now researching what might work better. During a trip to Europe, almost all the beds were latex and I found them very comfortable. I also slept on a Perfecta mattress and it was great; however, I don’t believe they are sold in the U.S.

Average at Best!

Positive Won’t disturb your partner getting in and out of the bed

High quality foam
Cons: Does not support

Causes back and neck pain

expensive for foam

Last year my boyfriend and I purchased a king size Tempur-Pedic Swedish Mattress. This was going to be our new bed in our new home. I recently purchased a wonderful bed but it was a queen and he wanted a king. After much deliberation, I let him decide because I am young and he is 22 years my senior and more often than not experienced aches and pains. What a HUGE mistake! This bed is terrible. He sleeps like “the dead” and I toss and turn all night. I am now the one with aches and pains. It feels awful and it does not support the body well. This is just my humble opinion. However, I am not a doctor. If I had my way, I would through this bed out the window. Unfortunately, he loves it and since we spent a fortune on this product, I am stuck with glorified foam. So to make a long story short, I sleep in the guest room in my old bed and it is wonderful. So, my final review I hated it and he loved it! Thank you for reading my rant.

Like sleeping in a sinkhole

Positive Spring mattress manufacturers have nothing to worry about.
Cons: Very disappointing experience.

We purchased the Tempur-Pedic with very high expectations fostered by the video and a friend’s recommendation. After the very difficult initial adjustment period (smell and lack of support), I noticed that my lower back started to ache and that if I slept in a fetal position (left or right side) I was in so much pain that I would have to lie on my back (I am a side and stomach sleeper). So I cannot understand the claim that it reduces pressure points. Also, the claim that you don’t feel another person’s movement is blatantly false, unless they are a wine glass. If the person next to you is heavy, their weight causes a deep dip in the mattress creating a sliding sensation. It’s awful and cannot be recommended for anyone who has any kind of orthopedic problems. Some claim the mattress is too firm; I found the opposite to be true. It’s much too soft and lacks proper support for the spine. After suffering through one month, we called the mattress store to haul it away. The advertising is a lot of hype. Save your money, your time and your back.

Raves from back pain sufferer!

Positive Supports your entire back and waist. Don’t feel the other person move.
Cons: The cheapest style is hot in the summer, I understand.

I had surgery on a herniated disc in 1981, and currently have degenerative disc disease and scoliosis. I had been loosing 2 hours a night of sleep, about 2-3 nights a week due to pain, for probably 10 years. About 20 visits to a chiropractor a year. Lots of pain medication.

I’ve had the tempurpedic bed for 3 months, and have had only 3 nights of pain, total!!!! I could have had that in 1 week before!

Additionally, I don’t wake up when my husband, a night owl, gets into bed, or when he gets out of bed. I don’t feel his movements!

I’ve spent over $1000 for each bed the last two times that I’ve bought a bed. They lasted 4 years until they caved in. This has a 20 year warranty.

Worse than sleeping on the floor

Positive I can’t think of any
Cons: Not made for sleeping

The only reason this bed got 1 star is becasue I couldn’t give it 0. I have never been so sore and unrested in my life. We got our bed a week ago and after the “breaking-in” period, it’s only slightly softer than a rock. I sleep if I’m lucky 3 hours until I wake up and start tossing and turning for the rest of the night. I have have woken up with a very stiff and sore neck and the whole right side of my body is stiff. I have decided to get SOME sleep till we get a refund, I have to sleep on the couch (which you have to have a pillow under you so you aren’t laying on a edge of wood…. different story), or in the twin bed with my 3 year old. Getting kicked in the side and smacked in the face many times a night is well worth it compared to the value of sleep I’m getting now. I am l looking into a Select Comfort/Sleep Number bed now. Buyer beware.

Don’t Buy Tempur-Pedic If you Like Cold Room

Positive The smell goes away
Cons: Tempur-Pedic mattress is too hard if you have a cool room.

My back is killing me. The mattress is hard. I have had it two weeks and had people walk on it the way the store recommended. I sleep less and wake up with a back-ache. The bed is much harder than the one in the showroom. I like a cold room, but, hey, I’m in Southern California, so it isn’t that cold. I also bought the platform, which I’ll keep, but after reading the reviews on the web, I worry about how difficult the mattress will be to return. I sure believed their hype.

too hot

Positive Very comfortable and improved lower back discomfort
Cons: Sleeping much much to warm.

My husband and I fell in love with the comfort of the mattress. He had lower back pain which improved considerably after just a few nights. What I did not anticipate is the heat produced by the Mattress. I am always uncomfortably warm. I have tried to put a blanket under the sheet on my side, but that has not helped. I’ve talked to several other women who are going through menopause, and they all are having the same problem. As comfortable as the bed is, I wouldn’t purchase it again.

Tempur-Pedic Swedish Mattress Adjustable King

Positive Good mattress, very restrictive warranty, buyer beware!
Cons: Weak adjustable frame, very poorly made, horrible warranty, read fine print!!!!!

I bought this bed in October 2005. At first glance this is a great bed, however read the fine print on the warranty very carefully!!!! Although you see on the tv ads people walking on the bed, and many resellers will even tell you that you have to walk on the bed to help “break it in”. If you do this on their adjustable bed, it will void the warranty. In fact my wife, all 140lbs of her, simply sat at the edge of the bed and this broke the bed. Although the company has a 30 year warranty, practically nothing is covered in this warranty, including sitting on any part of the bed without “evenly distributing your weight”. I don’t know many people who can dynamically enter a bed laying flat down, but this is the only way the warranty would be honored. Pretty weak in my opinion, just another company who has no post sale responsibilty for their product. I will never recommend this product to anyone!

TEMPUR-PEDIC SUCKS

Positive none
Cons: the warranty is bogus

my mattress has failed and tempur pedic will not cover it under warranty! When the memory cells stop responding (and they will) is NOT covered under warranty. Apparently the warranty only covers dips, not failure to respond. So I spend $1700 on a mattress that is a heavy hunk of foam rubber. I constantly wake up with hip pain. It is extremely hot. And I cant return it. On average the tempur pedic is said to fail AFTER 2 YEARS OF USE! Mine failed after 4 months. My return period was 3 months.

I recommend that no one purchase this mattress. I dont want other people to be screwed out of thier money.

I am willing to sell it to anyone who thinks they want this crappy mattress for $800.

Better than a spring mattress

Positive No flipping more comfortable than conventional mattress
Cons: Very expensive not for everyone

I recently purchased the tempur pedic mattress and am pretty satisfied with it. With my old spring mattress I would wake up sore every morning. My back would be the most sore. But now with the tempur pedic my back dosnt hurt quit as much. The only negative is that if you buy it directly from tempur pedic it is very expensive. The model I bought was the deluxe queen. Hope this helps someone out there.

If you have the means…..

Positive This mattress is extremely comfortable. It does everything they advertise.
Cons: Over priced

the first week was strange. I wasn’t sure if I liked the mattress or not. It’s a whole new way of sleeping if you have slept on springs your whole life. After a week I was sleeping like a baby. I look forward to hitting the sack now. Its like I get an extra hour or two sleep a night. If have the means, you wont be disappointed.

I would like to say they are worth every penny but I do think they are way over priced. Although, you can save a couple thousand by utilizing Ebay (I did)

Hate our Tempur-Pedic mattress

Positive You don’t disturb your partner as much when you move in bed
Cons: Hot, exorbitantly priced given its actual two year life span, wears very poorly.

I researched this mattress on-line, and the salesman gave his pitch. But my husband and I both hate this mattress. It is only three years old and we are both sleeping in significant ditches on the mattress. It is also very hot in warm weather. We paid too much to be able to replace this one so soon, but BEWARE - in our opinion this is an unacceptable mattress.

Expensive, but worth every single penny!

Positive The ultimate in support and comfort.
Cons: Sitting up on your backboard can be a bit uncomfortable. Designed for laying down only!

How much would you pay for a good night sleep? As much as a tempur-pedic costs!! We’ve had our deluxe king tempur-pedic for about 6 months now, and it has TOTALLY improved how well we sleep! Before the tempur-pedic I would always wake up with a sore neck or back and shift around constantly. But when I lay down on my tempur-pedic I usually DO NOT MOVE the whole night until about an hour before I wake up. This means I’m being properly supported and don’t need to shift around, which leaves me waking up rested and refreshed. I can’t say enough good things about this bed. Everyone should have one!!

Not For the Average Customer

Positive Durability, firmness, doesn’t squeak
Cons: Like sleeping on your kitchen table. Not a good night’s rest.

Too hard for someone who doesn’t sleep on their back all the time. I have had it for two weeks and am looking for new bed before having them haul it out and give me my money back.

We love our Tempurpedic!

Positive Supportive. No more “ouch” points like with the old spring mattress.
Cons: High profile (but we’re tall, so we love it). May be too high for some.

We absolutely love our Tempurpedic bed. We admit it actually took some getting used to. In fact, the first few nights I slept on it, I had odd small pains the next day. I figured out after day 3, when they started to fade, that it was just my muscles no longer contracting to handle the pressure points of the old mattress. So, my muscles were actually stretching a bit with the Tempurpedic! But the Tempurpedic was completely supportive and my body adapted. And then…it was absolutely delicious! We love it, love it love it! We’ve had it for about 2 months now and we rue the day we have to stay in a hotel when on vacation. We wish we could take it with us! </p>

Use your floor instead

Positive The sample at the store was nice.
Cons: Most expensive mattress available and worst sleep experience possible. Can’t use electric mattress pad/feather bed.

Our Tempurpedic was delivered on a very cold February day (in the 20s) and was as hard as a stone. Should have known that was the start of 60 days of sleeping on concrete. The dealer said they soften up. Ours was nothing like the sample at the store. After waiting the 30 days required by the return policy, we switched to an air mattress type bed. We still have the air mattress bed, but unfortunately it is not a Sleep Number bed. I wish it was. The dealer (Rick’s Beds in Dallas) was a pain to work with but they did take the Temperstone back. I never saw the price difference returned to me (about $800). Every time I turned around there was another ‘fee’. I wish I had never heard of Tempurpedic. They never stop sending you trash. I’m considering suing them using the privacy laws. Maybe I can get some of my money back.

I’m going to get my wife to spend a couple nights at a Wyndham so I can talk her into a Wyndham Heavenly Bed.

2nd Awesome mattress

Positive Helps with the pain.
Cons: Not using mattress pad and have trouble with bottom sheet, will buy suggested elastic straps.

This is our second mattress - first was 9 yrs ago and the original mattress. We have given that to our son who thinks he’s in heaven. We decided to buy the Celebrity mattress with the pillowtop because we wanted a higher mattress. We had been very happy with the first mattress and love this second one even more. Yes, it is expensive but so worth it. We both have bad backs and hardly move during the night. I read the 2 reviews from people saying they had Fibromyalgia and not to buy Tempur-Pedic. I have had Fibromyalgia for 15 years and this brand has been a god-send so don’t let the 2 reviews scare anyone off. I would highly recommend it and also use their pillows. I had a fluffy mattress pad on the first mattress even tho they said not to. I haven’t put one on this one - we went from a CA King to a reg. King. I ordered the mattress protector from Tempur-Pedic and it hasn’t come yet but I know it won’t match the fluffy pads that I am use to. We’re trying to get use to not using one like they suggest.

The Good and the Bad Tempur-Pedic

Positive no pressure on body, durable, supportive, no partner motion
Cons: sometimes hot, expensive

I checked out http://www.kwikken.com/ for info on the Tempurpedic before getting my 8 year daughter with health issues the Classic. She sleeps very well now but I am still unsure at the moment whether I want to get the Grand Bed. From all I have read and heard, it definitely seems worth it and it has done wonders for her.

Doesn’t hold up!

Positive great at first
Cons: softens up and compresses after a few years!

I raved about this mattress when it was new. Now after 3 years I’m in pain every morning. The mattress is on a platform bed. By morning my butt feels like I’ve been sleeping on a rock all night. The guarantee doesn’t help because the mattress compression occurs only when I’m on it.

Even the pillows I purchased when I bought the bed have softened up so much they don’t do the job any longer.

Unless you’re a light-weight, keep away from this mattress.

I’ll never recommend a Tempur-pedic !!

Positive Effective marketing commercials…
Cons: Won’t last two years. Mattress support mechanism fails with no manufacturer back-up.

Against the recommendations of two neighbors who had the Tempur-pedic matresses, we still went ahead a bought one.

Bad decision!!

After fourteen months the mattress developed a substantial sag in the middle and produced morning backaches for both my wife and I. –By the way, I’m 175 and she is 150 lbs.

We approached our mattress dealer where it was purchased…they said it’s not their problem, but the Tempur-pedic manufacturer.

We approached tempur-pedic for a solution, and they basically blew us off, saying that we abused the mattress by having too much weight! What??

So, save your money, buy, a mattress with individual pocketed coil springs and only use a tempur-pedic to ship pianos with.

Foundation is very noisy, creeks and cracks

Positive doesn’t sag
Cons: Noisy foundation!! Very firm until you have slept on it a few months.

We have a King size 8inch thick Swedish Sleep set and after about 6 months, the foundation started making crackling noises when we would move or sit on the bed. It sounds like plastic is being twisted or rubber is being pinched under the mattress. We contacted the store we purchased it from and they replaced it at no charge. Again, we noticed the same noises start to occur with this new foundation by Tempur-pedic. We sleep ok, but every move my husband or I makes results in a creeking noise that wakes us both up. I think a sturdy, all wood foundation would be the best choice to prevent this, but we will see what the company says after the 2nd foundation request.

Rip-off

Positive Comfortable
Cons: Can have the same thing for $69.95 from Target

My brother owns a Tempurpedic Mattress. I have a bad back so I sent for their literature. By the way, when I house sit at his house, I sleep on his bed. I have Tempur-pedic’s video and sample foam. His bed was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on. Here is the problem, and this is the first time I have ever written a message against a manufacturer.Tempur-pedic’s Queen overlay costs $888.00 but I just happened to be shopping at Target and noticed a “Memory Foam Queen Mattress Overlay” for $69.95. I thought for the money I would try it and if I didn’t like it I could throw it away. I bought it and put it on my bed. This is the amazing part, it is equally as comfortable as Tempur-Pedic’s $888.00 overlay. My brother slept on my new bed and announced the same conclusion I came to. There is no difference in the two beds. What does that say about Tempur-Pedic’s $888.00 bed. Tempur-Pedic is promoting a massive rip-off on the consumer. The price difference is EGREGIOUS.

Growing dislike over time

Positive No pressure points.
Cons: Very little support, even less as it heats up.

My wife and I were disappointed with the way our innerspring mattress formed depressions over time which seemed to undermine its support and we believe contributed to low back pain for both of us. This amazed us as we are both fit and not heavyweights. The tempur-pedic seemed great in the store (most beds do) and with the 90 day policy seemed like a low-risk proposition. It met our expectations initially and we had no complaints. It is now 3 years later and after increasingly poor sleep, low back and neck pain, we decided to re-try the innerspring mattress which is now in the guest room. It was amazing how good that felt. My lingering neck pain went away after a few nights (still using a memory foam cervical pillow - this combined with the tempur-pedic seems very bad!). Whatever support the tempur-pedic initially provided seems to have disappeared. So, bottom line for us is early impressions can be deceiving. We’ll probably be switching back to an innerspring mattress.
