**** UPDATE August 2005**** Had this almost a year now! Traveled a lot for summer vacations and still can’t wait to get home to our bed. It is night and day comfort when compared to a typical spring coil. No problems or issues to speak of. We referred my parents to the store and they are enjoying theirs too!

After much hesitation my husband talked me into trying this bed. We visited a store in the local mall and spent an hour deciding which model we’d like. We chose the 7000.
The bed arrived in 9 different boxes and took 2 hours for my husband to assemble it!!! It wasn’t difficult to assemble but time consuming with two small children running around the mess.
The bed sits on a well designed hard plastic foundation (two twin size bases)with legs. On top of the foundation is your mattress “cover”. Inside this you assemble the foam border walls and foam base, and set up the the air pump.
Once the foam is in place the air chambers are laid inside and then another sheet of foam on top of the chambers. Zip the mattress cover top on and you are finished.
We were very impressed with the engineering and quality of the products used. Everything fits snugly and the directions were clear and easy to understand. However, I’d really recommend anyone in doubt to go ahead and pay the extra $100 to have the store handle the set-up (and removal of your old bed!) My husband tends to be very good at “handy” work, otherwise it would have been a disaster trying to assemble this.
As for the odor mentioned in other reviews…yes it was strong the first night! I put some “Vicks” under my nose so I couldn’t smell the “foam chemical” smell. By the second evening it wasn’t noticeable.
Each side of our King bed has it’s own control system (like a TV remote)…You simply increase or decrease the air pressure in the bed by pushing a button. This allows my husband to keep his side much firmer than I choose to keep mine.
I am so thrilled to be able to choose a softer sleep area than my husband. He likes to sleep on his stomach and can choose to dial in a firmer setting or conversely dial in a softer setting for those times he sleeps on his back.
I suffered many years of frequent neck tension and head aches. They are GONE. I wake feeling rested and pain free and that is a miracle to me.
We’ve had this bed almost two months and have had several opportunities to sleep in other beds while visiting friends and traveling in hotels. We both can’t believe how great it is to come home to the comfort of the Select Comfort 7000.
You do have the option of returning the bed within 30 days (in original boxes) and you must pay the ~$100 shipping. We felt this was worth the chance to find a whole new sleep comfort. It worked!
