A little over a year ago we purchased a queen-size Tempur-Pedic Deluxe mattress set. It feels totally different from any other mattress and we absolutely love it. It supports every part of your body. I especially like it because it fills the small of my back, which is extremely comfortable. I also sleep on my side sometimes and it’s comfortable in that position also. I used to wake up with muscle stiffness, but no longer do. I would not trade this mattress for any other kind! My husband also prefers this mattress–his back pain has been reduced and he also loves the very comfortable feel. It feels soft, but at the same time is very supportive everywhere. It’s hard to describe–you might want to lie down on one in a local store to try the feel of it (but then order on-line–see below). We had a 4-month return period, but we never considered sending ours back
I have not noticed any difference in feel from winter to summer, which had been a concern after reading the literature before we bought it. It is temperature responsive and molds to your body. It is supposedly firmer in cooler temperatures and softer in warmer, but this has not been a problem.
We purchased ours from a site we found in searching Tempur-Pedic on the Internet (Habitat Futons in Louisiana). We didn’t have to pay any sales tax, which is a big savings on a purchase of this size, because we don’t live in Louisiana. They are very easy to deal with, and gave us free shipping and set up, two free Tempur-Pedic pillows of our choice, and a free mattress cover especially suited to the Tempur-Pedic. (Tempur-Pedic doesn’t recommend using the regular, thicker mattress pads because they would affect the feel and support of the mattress.) This cover is very thin and doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress, but protects it extremely well. (I am picky about the mattress staying clean. The mattress itself has a zip-off cover, but this would be hard to do, I think, because the mattress is heavy.) The free mattress cover turned out to be a very important perk a few months later:
My husband is on blood thinner and had out-patient surgery. To make a long story short, his incision bled very heavily while he slept. This produced a very large stain on the bedding, actually his shirt and the bedding were soaked, and after two emergency room visits (hours later), I removed the sheets and mattress cover, dreading the results. To our surprise, the mattress was pristine. This mattress cover was a great asset, as the Tempur-Pedic set is quite expensive. The mattress cover even laundered very well. So, I strongly recommend the use of this thin-type mattress cover if you can find one–I’ve never seen this kind in stores. I would definitely purchase from Habitat Futons for these perks and ease of doing business. (The mattress price is set, but different dealers offer different perks.) They are very knowledgeable and have excellent phone support. And, we felt we were helping the Katrina area in some small way.
We chose the neck pillows in queen size, medium thickness, I believe. I love the pillow as well! Very comfortable for back or side sleeping, and again, feels like no other kind. I have not noticed any problem with the pillow feeling too hot at all, as some reviews have said, but we keep our room fairly cool at night. The shape doesn’t really fill the pillow cases, but comfort is much more important to us. If looks are a concern, fill your shams with a cheap traditional pillow, and sleep on the Tempur-Pedic ones. (This is the reason for only 4 stars on ease of use, but not a real problem.)
We are extremely pleased with the Tempur-pedic products and Habitat Futons. Highly recommend this sleep system (and the perks)!
