When family and friends pull up roots and move to remote regions requiring an overnight stay when you pay them a visit, give them a nice send-off. Buy them an AeroBed or two. Better yet, throw a couple in the trunk of your own car with some pillows and bed linens.
Some night, you’ll thank yourself.
Available in sizes from twin to king, the AeroBed is more than just the typical air mattress. The AeroBed is made of filament-reinforced heavy duty vinyl similar to the material used in inflatable carnival “bounce houses” and sealed with electronically welded seams. A cotton cover over the bed’s surface of “comfort coils” makes the AeroBed feel more like an innerspring mattress and less like a glorified swimming pool raft. The permanently attached electric air pump inflates the AeroBed into a ready-to-sleep-in bed in just a minute, with no danger of overinflation, even if you leave the pump running for longer than a minute. If you find the fully-inflated AeroBed too firm, a “comfort control” release valve lets you soften it up. Provided you don’t set the thing up on a bed of nails or a pile of broken glass, the AeroBed should last for years.
Every size of AeroBed uses ordinary bed linens. And when it’s time to put it away, a hinged master valve swings open to let all the air out. Roll it up, slip it back into its duffel bag and throw it back up on the closet shelf.
Considering that the typical $20 air mattress might give you one or two uses before a seam splits, the $100 price of the twin size AeroBed is VERY reasonable.
The AeroBed is sold at retail in many major department stores and at specialty chains like Bed, Bath and Beyond. Their website is at www.thinkaero.com
