My husband and I are in the market for a new bed. Sleep number was one of the beds on our list of possibles. I was quite excited when we checked into a hotel and were given a room with a sleep number bed. I usually don’t like to sleep away from my own bed, even as uncomfortable as it is, but I could not wait to get a great comfortable nights sleep.
We spent three nights on this bed and I found that it is nothing but a glorified air mattress- I could have been just as comfortable camping out.
First even on the third night, I had trouble finding ‘just the right number’. I would get somewhat comfortable only to find that if I turned over or moved to a different position, my comfort number would change. The mattress did not conform to my body at all, my heavier center sunk in the mattress while my arms and legs were puffed up. It was worse if my husband rolled on my side of the bed, he would sink down and I where I was would poof up.
There is no consistency to this bed, it is unsupportive and impractical. My husband felt the same way. We happened to travel with another couple who had a sleep number in their room and had nothing nice to say about it when we met up in the morning.
The complaints were the same, the air displacement gave little to no conforming to the body and true comfort no matter what the number was. And this same air displacement issue made the bed completely impractical for a couple, especially if the weight difference between the couple is extreme and if the couple likes to sleep close together. If you don’t already have a “straight down the middle” defined separate sleep zone with your partner, this bed is not for you.
