I recently purchased the Select Number 3000 series queen sized bed. I was searching for a bed that would provide support while not compromising comfort. I was surprised to learn that the Select Comfort beds come with a twenty year warranty and a three month free trial period.
When the boxes arrived I wasn’t quite sure if I would be able to assemble the bed by myself so I enlisted the help of a friend. Together we were able to understand and complete the project in less than an hour. The bed is comprised of a hard plastic frame which snaps together much like a Lego set. On top of the frame sits a fabric case in which foam inserts provide the structure for the bed’s air chambers. I chose the model with dual air chambers so that each side of the bed can be inflated to a separate comfort level. After placing the air chambers into the foam structure, they were connected to the air pump that is provided, and the bed was inflated. The air pump is connected to a control device which is used to find the unique comfort level for each sleeper. It only took about five minutes to complete the inflation process and zip the padded top onto the foam and air bed structure. After the bed was assembled it looked like any other mattress/box spring combination. Because it comes in standard sizes, it accommodates regular sheet and bed frames.
I liked the simplicity of the design and the technology used to create the bed, but would it be as comfortable as all the commercials say it is? The salesman explained that it is important to set the sleep number at 100 initially and lower it by five each night until it meets the sleepers comfort satisfaction. I tried this technique but found it to be too arduous for my taste so I simply laid down on the bed and used the inflation device to inflate and release air until it felt perfect. That night I slept like a baby! I’ve been sleeping on the bed for three months now and the difference in my quality of sleep has been noticeable. In the past I was a reckless sleeper, tossing and turning all night long. Now I find a good position and seem to stay put for long periods of time. I wake up feeling like I actually slept instead of feeling like I ran a marathon all night!
I have found that once in awhile I need to check my sleep number settings because over time the bed seems to lose a small amount of air. This isn’t much of an issue since it is so easy to inflate. I simply return it to my preferred number which is 65 and it is ready for my slumber. The Select Comfort 3000 has enabled me to sleep a deeper sleep, which makes my waking hours more productive.
