I have had a select comfort 5000 king size mattress since 1998. My wife had pain in her hips and lower back for over two years at the time I bought it and within one week she noticed the pain went away and stayed away. I have seen other reviewers saying that they are sleepy during the day and get poor sleep at night. They then will say that they feel pain and select comfort does not cure them. Well I cannot sleep all night because I have a sleep disorder called Fibromyalgia, which causes me to get very little deep sleep before my dreams come around 1:30am. During deep sleep the muscles of the body rejuvenate and my muscles don’t get that benefit so therefore I will experience muscle pain after several days of no deep sleep. I also feel tired during the day. I must take a small dose of medicine to sleep at night. A select comfort mattress will not help me with this type of medical problem, but I do sleep much better on a select comfort mattress. We own 4 mattresses for our family members and everyone misses them when we go on vacation. I have topped each mattress with a 3 inch memory foam topper and this just makes the bed that much more wonderful. My dad just moved in with us and we got him a 5000 Sleep Number bed with a three inch bed topper and an adjustable bed frame. He has arthritis in his lower back and could not take arthritis medication or aspirin because it would counteract the coumadin that he was taking. Within one week of sleeping on a select comfort bed, he says he has zero back pain. These beds are easy to set up and all of my 4 beds have performed perfectly. This bed will help more for people who sleep on the side or back. A belly sleeper like me will have to set it high (Hard) and the back support benefit is not as great. My wife sleeps on her back and side and lowers the air pressure level to 30 so the mattress contours to her body.
