Cons: sagging - which equates to poor sleep
I agree with the statement that the Sealy Crown Jewel develops a center sag. It took approximately 2 years for it to noticeably appear. I suspect that it’s related to all of the side support that is added to the mattress. The problem with added side support is that is tends to deform less than that of the rest of the mattress. The end result is that when exposed to body weight, the mattress perimeter doesn’t give while the mattress inside the side perimeter does. This gives the sensation of sleeping on an incline. This effect gets progressively worse over time. At minimum I would recommend going with a mattress that utilizes a thicker gauge coil such as 12.75 verses 14.

We purchased a King - Sealy Crown Jewel Plush Pillowtop set about 1 1/2 years ago. Since then, both my husband and I have developed terrible back problems - we wake up in pain, that is, if we manage to fall asleep at all. This is like sleeping in a marshmallow! We both absolutely HATE it!! My chiropracter recommends the we get a new mattress ASAP, because this damn thing is NOT good for my back. Sealy doesn’t give a damn about that; they sold it, and they won’t co anything about it. This mattress stinks! I would NOT RECOMMEND this mattress to my wost enemy! There are truth in advertising laws that are being violated here by
Sealy. This mattress is the worst thing ever.

Two years ago, I was in the middle of a major redecoration of my home, and decided to buy the best mattress I could find - at around $1000. Frankly, the S&F $2000 mattress was grossly overpriced, and the salesman told me to avoid the no-turn BeautyRest, so I checked out the Crown Jewel. I liked it. So the first delivery was defective. Mountainous lumps and deep craters! The replacement was OK, but by 6 months, the middle had collapsed so that I felt I was sleeping in a valley. The third replacement is over a year old with the same collapsing middle. Jeesh! Why is Sealy still in business? Oh, and the Crown Jewel line is forever discontinued. Screw Sealy - I’m getting a Select Comfort.

This has got to be the biggest most expensive dog turd on the market! $1200 on this nightmare! Went looking for a good nights sleep and now my wife and myself have back and neck pain and my wife, 26 years old, has to have regular chiropractor appointments. We have had this “Crown Jewel” about 3 years now, and it just gets worse with time. Huge crators on both sides of this sagging wonder also, even after the recommended flipping. I would rather sleep on the floor. We have now saved up for a new mattress, and we will never buy another product from Sealy.

I can’t believe that 5 1/2 years after buying the Sealy Posturepedic Crown Jewel Fletcher Ultra Plush Pillowtop mattress to the tune of $1420, I am considering placing it curbside. My husband and I worked very hard to pay off this bed and it is a worthless piece of junk. I have to buy a new bed now, and the warranty is not worth much. I know that the Crown Jewel line is discontinued now, thank goodness.
Serta Crown - No Deep Sleep, Just a Deep Crater!

We bought a new king-size Serta Crown with plush pillow-top in June 2004. Our first challenge was finding sheets - even “deep” pockets can’t cover the 18″ thick mattress! We had to spend $500 for a sheet and comforter set that fit. Next came adjusting to a new mattress. From the first night it was uncomfortable, but we decided it would take time to get used to it. We were changing from a Simmons Beautyrest which we loved. We bought a new King-size bedroom suite and got a great deal (so we thought) for a new Serta Crown mattress set which we bought at a going-out-of-business auction. We were smug about getting this set for only $600 - about half off the retail price. After 3 months, I realized there was a crater in the center of the mattress. My hubby is 80lb heavier than myself and I spend the entire night “rolling” into a hole next to him. Even when I’m on the far edge of the bed, my body feels like I’m rolling down an incline. It is now Feb 2005 and today we are going to buy a new Simmons.
Big indentations from average size people!

My wife and I loved this thing when we first bought it. A few years later and the craters are so big, we can’t take it any more. We even resorted to rotating/flipping it more than required in an attempt to maintain a firm surface. On a good note, our local dealer took a look at it and they are going to replace it - no hassle.
