Updt: Aug 4, 07. I was concerned over kt-marie’s review of Sit n Sleep selling a used TP mattress. How does anyone know if they received a new one or a “used on”?

According to TP - each mattress/foundation comes sealed in plastic so check to see if it has been altered, repackaged or taped. They also go on further to state, “Tempur-PedicĀ® does not authorize the sell of used mattresses, even on trial returns. All mattresses returned to us are destroyed or otherwise disposed of for health reasons. It is against federal law to sell a used mattress. If Tempur-PedicĀ® discovers a retailer selling a used mattress, this is against the agreement we have with the store and it can lead to them loosing their right to sell our products.

Updt: July 22, 2007. Have had this set for several weeks. - so far so good

Haven’t fallen on the floor yet! Mrs. loves it and says I don’t seem to snore as much. Once you get into it, you “sink in” at various spots. Noticed that my hip can wake up stiff in the morning but suspect it has to do with the settling in and the pillows.

Now, I understand why they say don’t use a heating blanket. Perhaps due to the foam itself or the fact the foam in contact with your body generates a “radiant” type heat. On warm days you might want an overhead fan.

Many people like sitting on the side of the bed when tying shoes etc… forgetaboutit unless you are a contornist.

June 19th;

Purchased this set from Mattress Discounters at a cost of $2900.00 plus S/H/Installation.

According to MD, if you don’t procure a protection pad ($109.00) it will invalidate the warranty. After speaking with Tempur-Pedic there are also 2 critical differences; TP offers 90 try and return for a full refund while MD offers only 60 days and an exchange for a “different mattress” but no full refund.

We will get to the mattress directly but since this is a foam mattress a queen size might be a problem as the edges (unlike traditional box spring) also “sag” and thus you will find yourself moving towards center and if there is more than one it gets a little crowded.

After the plastic comes off, the odor! Wow, takes the better part of a week for it to dissipate. Tempur-pedic describes this a “slight odor from their unique manufacturing process” and claim “all polyurethane materials have this characteristic”. The latter may be true but it is not slight nor dissipates within a “few days” as they claim.

What you need to be very clear on is the foundation and type of support rails especially if you already have an existing head/foot board(s). MD informed us that connecting rails to Hd/Ft Bds would be straight-forward. It’s not and if you are going this route get a sample one before you buy it and try it on your hd/ft boards!

We first tried the 81-1 Hook Rails with center support and The rails were good to the headboard but not close to the FT board. The deliverers, had I not noticed it, would have just left it as is. The 2nd solution was a 1990 knickerbocker frame which doesn’t attach to headboards without special adapters. Even though MD did not charge for the S1-1, the 1990 was $100.00. It is made for 3 metal cross lats but only comes with the center one. Since this is a heavy set, it requires a much better center support on the frame.

While at least the bed was off the floor. The 1990 frame has 4 wheels with only 2 lock ones. Regardless of which way the wheels were turned even with 2 locked it still slid.

But, I don’t want to toss the head/ft boards so now what. MD suggested 2 new ones and there are websites that offer hundreds of different types - but will they fit becomes the question.

MD’s district manager finally shows up with “marti plates”, adapters and S-Hooks. The marti plates with hooks would have done the trick except the metal screws and nuts were a good 1/2″ too short. So, we go to frame #3 that is made for a water bed. No wheels but flat stands and a solid center support piece.

Unfortunately, the adapters/marti plates were still not solid enough so in addition out comes the drill along with 2 2 1/2 inch wood screws for each post. There are a number of things I can cite about this remedy but the bed is frame is solid (so long as you don’t move it too often out of squar). What I find interesting is that MD claims if they had made me knowledgeable about this, all of this install would need to be done by the customer.

According to Tempur-pedic;

- you don’t have to flip or rotate it.

- they do not recommend using conventional mattress pads or covers as they can affect “pressure relieving experience”. The Mattress Protector they sell of course is specifically designed. Makes me wonder about the one (Grand protection pad by Sealy that is made especially for MD) we purchased from MD with it’s lifetime pro guard protection.

- covers on some models are removable for washing but don’t over-dry or use clorine products or harsh stain removers.

- they are designed for use with a firm solid surface non-spring foundation or adjustable bed frame. If a warranty claim occurs you can believe they will want proof of your foundation quality.

- Don’t uss an electic blanket or heating pad due to the tempature sensitivity of the mattress.

- It has a 20yr limited warranty but only during the 1st 10 years only will they replace or repair at no cost. After that replacement is prorated which in year 11 is 50% of the original purchase price and 5% more each year thereafter.

- aside from physical flaws there must exist a .75 i/e 3/4″ indentation that is not due to foundation, box springs or platform. But of course if you use “inappropriate” support it voids the warranty.

I also would not leave it uncovered if you happen to have cats who patty-paw.

So far, the Mrs., who has had a chronic back problem seems to have less pain but still wakes up “stiff” at times. She feels it is a much improved. Me, I suspect I will fall out of bed as I like sleeping on the edge! If you have the room go with the king size. Sleep wise it takes some getting use to and that try it for 15 minutes at a sleep center is not going to do justice. Also, don’t forget that between the mattress, foundation and frame it sits considerably higher from the floor.
