After a relationship ended in which I had to leave behind a man and a beloved Tempur-pedic I scoured the internet for a mattress that would compare not only in quality but in the materials used at a more reasonable price.- I must have spent hours studying details on density of foam, inches of foam, claims of superiority and similarity. I perused all the customer reviews and testimonials that seemed trustworthy. The only site I found that used the same density of memory foam that Tempur-pedic does was Bragada Beds. And the price was reasonable, considering that Bragada sells directly. Plus, the warrantee reassured me, as it’s better than Tempur’s

I took the plunge, and ordered my Crowne, said to be comparable to the model of mattress I loved. Very scary, to order something pricey sight unseen, by a company that had somewhat questionable customer service reviews.

I am delighted, so far. My order was processed quickly, and I was kept in the loop via email. It was shipped slightly before the date they told me it would be (smart move on their part) and arrived well-packed, as I had expected and hoped it would. Other reviewers have described its set up so I will not dwell on this, but I’ll address my experience with a few things that have been brought up by others.

To wit, the smell: yes, it was there when I unpacked it (smelled like polymer paint) but disappeared after the mattress “blossomed” into its full size, about 8 hours or so later in my 70 degree bedroom. The size was what it said it would be, dimensions and depth.

Don’t judge how the mattress feels until it’s done with its metamorphosis, it seems mushy but feels like it’s supposed to after this.

It seems from older reviews that at one time it was shipped in parts (two pieces of the foam, and the cover separate) but mine came in one piece already put together so this, which I’d sort of dreaded, was a non-issue.

It’s very well crafted, or appears to be from the outside; time will tell about its foamy guts, but I am confident. I’ll update if things go bad, but I don’t expect them to. The cover is not velour as the site says, but it’s more pleasing to me than the Tempur’s, and it’s cotton and appears to be of very good quality. Unfortunately, it does not zip off for washing like Tempur’s but that’s not a big deal to me.

Re: the sagging or breaking down that some people have complained about in reviews, the same complaints have been made about Tempur-pedic by some people, with what seems to be the same frequency. I’m not convinced that Bragada is any less durable, and it does have a better warrantee. I’ll keep you all posted about my mattress.

Re: Customer service, I emailed the company with a question and a comment that was answered promptly and personably. This makes me think that they are striving for good service after some of the complaints here, a good thing.

Lastly, they are manufactured in the USA, in Indiana; Tempur-pedics are made in nearby Kentucky. I like supporting American-made.

One last thing, then I’ll stop: Memory foam and its ilk are a petroleum product, thus the prices reflect the cost of oil. One needs to consider, when buying a foam mattress, that if the price stays the same that compromises in quality might be made, as happens with so many other products that try to stay within a price-point. Just sayin’, and I don’t necessarily apply this caveat to my purchase.
