I didn’t get my Raised Aerobed for a spare bed, but for everyday use.
I live with family members and there is not much privacy or space in the house. I got on this exercise kick and there is not much space in the living room so I have to do my routines in my bedroom. With the bed, and the dresser, and other items in the way, I have to move everything out of the way. After doing exercise, the last thing I feel like doing is moving furniture back in its place. After seeing the commercial about 8 times, I was convinced I could save myself a lot of trouble by getting a regular size bed that could deflate and be put away if I need more space.
The bed has an automatic pump, so it is really easy to inflate. And just by opening a valve, you can deflate it really easily. You cannot sleep comfortable on the bed with just a fitted sheet. It will get too hot or if you have air conditioning, the bed will get too cold for comfort. There is a padded cover that you can purchase for about $40, but I didn’t get that. (I thought it was a bit expensive for such a little pad) I placed two blankets underneath the fitted sheet and it sleeps just fine.
When you move around, it does squeak a bit, but given the material, I guess that can be expected. I love that you can easily control the firmness just by blowing it up all the way or by letting some air out if you like your bed a little softer.
I do have a problem with the bed though. When you sleep on one side of the bed for a while, it goes a bit flat and the other side raises up. You have to change sides for a while to get the bed to even out. I had this problem once before, and now it is doing it again. This time, there is a big lump
underneath the side that I wasn’t sleeping on. I switched sides again, and it seems to be going down. I guess it is something like a regular mattress. You have to rotate a mattress every so often, and I guess the same applies to the Raised Aerobed
I have also had two little holes appear in the middle of the bed. And of course, this is not a good thing when you are sleeping on an air bed. It came with a repair kit. There is some strong smelling adhesive and some patches in the kit. It is pretty easy to repair. You just cut out a section of the patch an inch longer than the hole, and put the adhesive on. They say to deflate the bed before you patch it up then, wait an hour before you inflate the bed.
All in all, this is a pretty good product. It is very comfortable and you can put it away when you are not using it. If something punctures the bed, it is pretty easy to fix. I still love the idea of being capable of deflating my full size bed and storing it in the closet if I need space. There is no way you could ever do this with a regular bed!
