My husband and I purchased a King Sized Select Comfort Sleep Number 5000 bed about one month ago. I was home when the bed was delivered. Imagine my surprise to learn that I’d just paid $2000 for a foundation which looks like a Tyco plastic toy box with two camping air mattresses on top. I imagine there is about $300 worth of material in this $2000 bed. Plus, the warranty may be for 20 years but it’s a prorated warranty. Meaning if something goes wrong with this bed after two years, you’ll be paying for the repairs. One would expect more for this type of cost. But I would have put up with all of this if the bed had put an end to our back aches. Unfortunately, this didn’t happen. We’re still waking up unrested and achy. We have tried a varied amount of sleep numbers with no success. We’ve arranged to return the bed, which we have to ship back at a cost of $150. It’s a shame that we purchased it from a store but cannot return it to a store. Of course, we could have paid $200 to have Select Comfort pick it up. I’m hoping the $50 savings won’t mean a very difficult time in trying to get the bed vacuum packed into its original boxes. Maybe the whole problem has been the mental association with the cost. I just can’t sleep comfortably on a bed that cost me so much money, appears so inexpensively made, and has such a limited warranty.
