After debating whether or not to buy the Select Comfort model, I decided to go with the Signature series Nautilus and let me say that it has been a huge mistake. The mattress has been cheaply put together, the construction is iffy and the pillowtop construction is flat out poor. I’ve had the bed for about 6 years now and have been pretty unhappy with it. No matter how these companies try to spice these air beds up with catch phrases like “the sleep number bed” or “the best night’s sleep ever,” it’s garbage.
The Nautilus bed itself has foam sides, which eventually end up bowing out. Quite possibly the most annoying thing about this bed is that the top “mattress” part is so light that it slides around on the foundation. The money they charge for these things is sick when you really see what you get. These beds still feel like a Coleman air mattress that you buy at Wal Mart with a nice pillow top put on top of them and sandwiched in between foam sides. I don’t find any of the qualities in these beds that the manufacturers advertise.
Since I’ve had the bed, I’ve had the air pump replaced once and the “air bladder” (the air bed portion) replaced because one of the cylindrical chambers split and caused a huge bump in the middle of the bed. To Nautilus’s credit, they did send the replacements in a prompt manner. The pillowtop is sagging real bad and has the hammock effect. I’ve since had to buy a memory foam topper to go over the top of the bed to make it semi-comfortable.
All in all, these airbeds whether made by Nautilus or whoever are pretty cheesy and in my opinion, don’t do what they promise. I can’t wait to get rid of this thing.
