I decided to buy a Tempurpedic mattress after trying it out in a Healthy Back store earlier this year. The only sticking point was the $1499 sticker price. After reviewing some epinions reviews, I decided to try the ABED visco elastic bed to try and save some money.
I received my ABED queen mattress in April and immediately loved it. I even threw away the box and packing materials because I assumed that I would not ever need to return the bed. I then noticed that the ABED mattress started getting softer and softer over the next several weeks. Finally, I noticed that the visco elastic stopped springing back into shape. The Abed seemed softer and less supportive than my original Simmons mattress.
I called the ABED headquarters to discuss the situation. The customer service manager mentioned that ABED has shipped a batch of defective mattress and thought that I had probably gotten on of the defective mattresses. He offered to send a new mattress. He also offered to give me a refund pursuant to their 90 day free sleep trial policy. I opted for the refund.
I returned the ABED mattress (this cost me $79 bucks plus $22 for a new queen mattress box). I then ordered a Tempurpedic mattress on the internet. The new Tempurpedic mattress cost $1350 which included in home set up and removal of the old mattress.
I have to say that there is really no comparison between the ABED mattress and the Tempurpedic mattress. The Tempurpedic mattress springs back to shape immediately after you remove the pressure. On the other hand, the ABED mattress started losing its shape and its springiness after on 4 weeks. (I am a 138 pound, 5′7″ female so I don’t think that I should have worn down the mattress that fast!!)
In summary, I don’t recommend the ABED mattress as a replacement for the Tempurpedic bed.
