Although Tempur-Pedic’s marketing material claims seem outrageous, this is truly the best mattress I’ve ever slept on. $1700 seems like a lot to spend on a big piece of foam, but it’s no more than you’d spend on a good conventional mattress, and the Tempur-Pedic beats them all. My wife had insomnia for years, but since we’ve had the Tempur-Pedic, she sleeps the whole night through. Also, her chronic neck pain is largely gone.

My wife also loves the wedge-shaped Tempur pillow that came with the mattress (I still use a conventional pillow, though.)

My niece has back problems caused by two car accidents and she swears by her Tempur-Pedic mattress.

Some drawbacks:

(1) for the first four weeks on this mattress, I had the worst nights’ sleep of my life. If my wife hadn’t begged me to try it a little longer, I would have sent it back. Now I’m really glad we kept it.

(2) my wife said she could detect a chemical odor from the mattress for the first few weeks, but it went away eventually.
