I don’t know about you but bedtime at our house can be a battle… I like my bed to be like John Denver’s proverbial Grandmas Feather bed, and hubby is comfy sleeping on a slate slab…. so what’s a couple to do short of sleeping in two separate beds? We actually discovered these mattresses two years ago when I was having severe back problems and a difficult pregnancy, I was living on our couch because it was the only place I could really get comfortable. We went to the mall one day and visited our local SC store and tried out their different mattresses. We were amazed at the way I could adjust my side to that feather bed level and his could be his way.
Sure I figured this is great, but is it going to wake him up every time I adjust my side or vice-versa…. well honestly, no, it doesn’t. While you do hear some low rumbling noise, it isn’t enough to wake me if he decides to adjust his side while i’m sleeping.
How does it work?
The mattress is comprised of two separate air bags, one for each side of the bed. There is a large foam divider between the two to keep them separated and to keep your side from being affected by the others adjustment. You have a remote control that you use to adjust your setting -anywhere from 15 (way deep feather bed) to 100 (your driveway). Using the remote at night is easy as the face is backlit for easy viewing, the biggest problem we experience is finding it under the covers in the bed!
Everything Must Have a Foundation
Most beds have a box spring, and of course your new select comfort mattress will need a foundation as well. I recommend buying the foundation from them when you get your mattress, as it will provide a more uniform foundation for you than will a conventional box spring. The foundation is made from a sturdy PVC-like material and is sturdy yet lightweight when moving. The base screws together quickly and easily. The base is then fitted with panels that fit together easily by snapping into each other… The foundation is then covered with a large cover that is made from the same Belgian Damask as the Mattress itself. We purchased the Ultra King sized mattress so our foundation ran $500. Prices vary according to mattress size. You can go to www.selectcomfort.com and build your bed right there online! The foundation is an optional item when purchasing your bed.
The Mattress
Like I said, we choose the Ultra series because we liked the wireless remote and pillowtop features it offered. The Ultra has Dual Air Chambers which are the basis of having the ability to have two different settings on your bed. The remote controls the pump unit which conveniently fits under your bed and has tubes connecting the air chambers and pump. None of which are visible.
So what’s so great about the pillowtop? Well it makes your bed more comfy by adding extra comfort. With the pillowtop option you will have a mattress that is about 13 1/2" deep. This is very nice because the quilted top is filled with anti-microbial foam and fiberfill. The top zIps open easily and this is where when you are assembling your bed all the stuff goes. There are 4 thick foam walls that support the edges of the mattress you then insert your air chambers and connect their hoses to the pump. A large thick foam wall also goes betweent the two air chambers. Another foam egg crate is then positioned on top of the air chambers and you simply zip up your pillowtop and you’re done. The pillowtop is made from Belgian Damask, it’s very elegant and nicely constructed.
The Ultra series comes in various sizes from twin, twin-long, full, double, queen, king, and Cal. King so you can find any size you want.
Extras
When we purchased our bed we also chose a few extras from select comfort like their heated mattress pad cover. Now there is no more fighting over the blankets at our house either…. Select Comfort has thought of everything to make your sleeping experience all it can be. The zoned heating mattress pad has heat sensors that respond to your body temperature. You can also adjust each side of the bed with your own setting box. I like mine warm he likes his cool. The pad also has an automatic shut off after 10 hours, so when you’re late for work and forget to turn your bed off your house won’t burn down! The pad is also machine washable but you cannot put it in the dryer! The cover also comes with a two-year warranty.
Don’t Forget The Pillows
Select Comfort doesn’t skimp on the pillow department either you can get anti-snoring, body snugglers, down-filled and many others to ensure you’re sleeping on the most comfortable pillow possible. I don’t want to get into all the great options in this area, that’s another epinion all together.
So all-in-all I can’t tell you how much we both love this mattress. I get things the way I want them and so does he…. how many mattress’s can give you that? The mattress comes with a 20 year warranty and is worth every penny you spend for sleeping in luxury. I recommend this mattress to everyone.
