My husband and I bought a queen size Lady Englander only 4 short years ago.
The polite, knowledgeable salesman at the Dow Furniture store in Waldoboro, Maine said that Lady Englander was the best and that he has slept on his for years and “it’s still just as comfortable as the first night”. He explained the high quality mattress construction to us.
The mattress was among the higher priced ones at the store, and we figured that we were getting a high-quality mattress for the price. We purchased a queen-size mattress and spent some extra cash on two split box-springs for easier moving. We were told that the smaller box-springs wouldn’t affect the quality of our sleep or the mattress quality.
For the first year and a half, the mattress was a dream to sleep on. Very comfortable. We turned it regularly as instructed. Then we started noticing that the bedspace between us seemed higher and firmer than our sleeping spots. We began to wake up with slight discomfort each morning. Discomfort turned into pain.
My husband and I are young, healthy, slightly overweight (not obese) and have never had back problems before.
Now we take turns sleeping on our 8-year old guest bed just so we can get a decent night’s sleep. Whoever gets the guest bed wakes up in a much better mood than the one who sleeps on the Lady Englander. Sad… but we HAVE to keep sleeping on it until the indentations reach 2″ without us lying on it. THEN we can make the company replace the mattress. The only other option is to throw this 4-year old expensive mattress out. We won’t sell it to anyone because that would be downright cruel of us.
