Serta Perfect Sleeper? It is a well known brand name with a good reputation. When we saw Sam’s Club carried them at a great price ($425.00 for mattress and foundation) we bought a queen size for our adult daughter. Her report was fantastic. Pillow top with firm support gave her a very comfortable sleep.

We knew her needs because she had lived with us for 18 years. She is a big girl, almost six feet tall, so she needed size first of all. Hence, the queen size. Here is a tip. Most Americans are too large for a twin mattress. If two will be sleeping in the bed, and you can possibly afford it, try to get at least a queen size if not a king. It is impossible for a mattress to provide comfort if it is too small to start. No matter the support system or quality you are doomed from the start.

When our youngest daughter needed a new mattress we went back to Sam’s. The choice for her was a full size for $300.00. She sleeps alone. I hope for a long time yet. She’s only 16. The result has been the same for her. Very comfortable for her.

Serta lives up to their reputation on quality. The queen size has been moved twice since it was purchased last year and held up very well. Why do I mention this? Because moving will do more damage in one day to a mattress than 5 years of use. So be careful and patient. Do not drag the mattress across the carpet once you are in the house. You may be tempted to because it is so heavy, but a heavy mattress rubbing on carpet will create wear like you would not belive. Sometimes wearing right through the fabric of the mattress. I learned this the hard way years ago.

Moving the Serta queen size produced the only down side I have seen for this mattress. That is the thickness of the mattress with the pillow top. So WARNING, watch out for sharp turns and stair wells. The pillow top that gives so much comfort makes this bad boy really thick. You may not have room to even move it through the door at the top or bottom of a stairwell. I found I had to remove a board on the door header to get the mattress down a stair way. Take this into account before you decide on size.

Don’t look for a lighter mattress. The weight of the Serta is a reflection of the quality inside. A light mattress just doesn’t have as much inside for support and will sag after a short time.

Another feature I found very nice is the fabric on the foundation is not slippery. This means the mattress will not slide around on the foundation very easy. When you turn the mattress monthly, and you should, the non-skid surface makes the turn over easier. It doesn’t try to slide away from you. And yes, the pillow top is on both sides of the mattress so you can turn it side to side and end to end monthly to extend mattress life even longer.

Buying a mattress that will give you good results can be difficult. Even great quality can’t make up for a mattress that is too firm or soft. I knew my daughters needs for support and size and the Serta really filled the bill. You may even be sleeping with some one who needs different support than you. In that case you need to consider a mattress with different support on each side. Price is always important to me but the cheapest is not the only thing to look at, so I look for quality brands and see who has that quality product at the best price.

In short there is no one mattress for everybody. Considering everything I would recommend you look at the Serta brand, but will say right out that it may not fill your personel needs.
