There are many styles of Stearns & Fosters. You will find that each style has different names and they all begin with the same letter. For instance, we have a Drakemeyer which is also called a Deighton. There are other names for this style of mattress that begin with Ds. You may hear Stearns & Foster mattresses being referred to as B, C, D, E, H (etc) beds.
The three main questions asked when it comes to mattresses are: How much is it?, How comfortable is it? and How well does it support? Personally, I feel that comfort and support is more important than cost. After all, can you put a price on your health?
I will do my best to answer these three questions in as much detail as I can possibly give.
How much is it?
This particular mattress is about $1,299. This might sound expensive, especially compared to other brands but here is a layout of daily expenses of a house, a car, a computer and a Stearns & Foster mattress. The following was taken from a Stearns & Foster guide I received at a store.
4 bedroom home on a 2 acre wooded lot: $300,000 home/30 years - cost per day: $83.83
Luxury sedan: $25,000 vehicle/5 years - cost per day: $17.15
486DX2/66Mhz personal computer: $2,500 system/5 years - cost per day: $1.37
Stearns & Foster Deighton: $1,299/10 year comfort life - cost per day: about 35 cents.
How well does it support?**
I’ll start out by explaining the design of the coils in this mattress. First of all, they have a knotless design. Knots are stress points and stress points tend to fail. The Stearns & Foster coils are designed to provide the mattresses with a longer useful life. Second of all, the coils are hourglass shaped. This allows the coils to accept body weight and give more support as more weight is applied.
The following list is all the components of a Stearns & Foster mattress that make it supportive.
THE MATTRESS
Innerspring
This heavy, durable innerspring gives outstanding support.
Comfort layers
The comfort layers in the Deighton mattress are:
Inner Quilt Cotton: This cotton is stitched every few inches to a mesh backing to keep the cotton from going into the coils. It is pre-compressed to keep it from leaving body impressions.
Natural latex foam: This foam has the ability to spring back from compression. It moves with you so you are more comfortable when sleeping.
Premium Dupont Dacron Hollofil polyester fibers: This offers more comfort, greater durability and better air circulation.
Interlock foam encasement
This gives the border of the mattress support. Other brands of mattresses use border rods. Because the Stearns & Foster Deighton does not have the border rod, it can be bent at a 45 degree angle without being damaged.
THE BOX SPRING
Steel center rail
This gives you total stability. Unlike other brands of box springs that use wood, Stearns & Foster uses steel which has a longer life.
Interlocking grid top
This basically keeps the box spring from squeaking and gives it a more sturdy foundation.
Torsion bar module
The modules act as shock absorbers. When weight is applied, the modules flex to support you and the mattress.
Steel cross beams
There are up to 8 cross beams in the box spring. Each beam attaches to the center rail and onto the base. This gives you a more solid platform.
And now for the third and final question:
How comfortable is it?
The only one who can truly answer this question is you. Everyone knows what feels good to them. All I can say is I love mine. I got mine towards the end of my pregnancy and what a difference it made! I had horrible pains in my joints the last half of my pregnancy. I have to tell the truth and say that I still would wake up hurting in the morning but I hurt a lot less than I did with my old mattress. It cut back considerably on the pain I felt when I woke up.
Sleep is very important. You spend just a little less than 1/3 of your life sleeping. That is a considerable amount of time. The quality of sleep you get is more important than the amount of sleep. A Stearns & Foster Deighton can help you get that great quality sleep that you need.
