So So
Positive No more pressure point problems (arms falling asleep).
Cons: Too much body molding. Makes it difficult to change position.
We bought this mattress due to what we had read about it and the memory foam. We were both having low back problems with our old firm mattress and also pressure point problems. After sleeping on this mattress for the past year, we find that the pressure point problems are gone but not the lower back problems. One thing I did notice is that we don’t toss and turn so much. The thing I don’t like about the bed is that since the mattress molds to your body, you end up in this indentation you have to pull yourself out of. Once you get up, it comes back to it’s original shape but I don’t like being in a mold. Time for a conventional mattress, maybe just not as firm as the old one. Not one of our smarter investments.
Isotonic Sleep System Mattress
Positive None!
Cons: Back pain, Arms fall asleep,Indents stay after a couple years,
I have had this mattress for almost two years and I hate it.. I researched it and it sounded great. I still have low back pain and my arms are always falling asleep. It is hard to turn from one side to the other and after two years we have indents on my side and my husbands side. I don’t recommend this bed…
Too hot and indented for me….
Positive Looks nice, feels pretty good initially, less expensive than the Tempurpedic.
Cons: Makes you very hot, becomes indented over time.
We have had the Isotonic mattress by Carpenter for 2 years, and I am finally getting rid of it because I am fed up with waking up in the middle of the night sweating from the heat the memory foam traps. I had heard memory foam mattresses might be a bit warm, but I didn’t take it that seriously; if you are at all warm-blooded, this is not the mattress for you. It also has 2 indentions in it on either side from where my husband and I sleep, even with regular turning. Apparently the foam can (and does) break down over time. I had high hopes for this mattress, but sadly, it didn’t live up to expectations. (And it didn’t provide any relief for my bad back, either.) It is also much firmer after you sink in for a while than you are likely to expect, which can be a problem if you order online or only have a quick try-out.
Isotonic Memory Foam Great Value
Positive Price and quality and customer service.
Cons: Needs handles on the side of the mattress.
After reading the review on this site from amyk49, my wife and I decided to trial and then purchase an Isotonic memory foam mattress from the Carpenter Company. We have been sleeping on the mattress and foundation for more than a year and a half and have only positive things to say about our sleeping experience on this bedding. I wanted a foam mattress for pain located in my back and neck. Both areas improved after sleeping on the Isotonic mattress. I get a higher quality of sleep as well because you turn less often when you sleep on this mattress compared to a mattress with spring support.
The Carpenter Company gave us excellent customer service as well. I do wish that there were handles on the side of
mattress for rotation. However this is a small trade-off when you compare the price and quality of this mattress with that made by Tempurpedic.
I highly recommend this mattress.
Two years and it’s shot
Positive Good for the first 90 days.
Cons: Memory foam shot after 24 months
I conducted what I thought was an exhaustive review of viscoelastic mattresses and settled on Carpenter’s Isotonic Mattress two years back. My sister who is a tougher shopper than I bought one, so I purchased a King through Overstock for $1099.99 March 2003. Initially I was very excited about the idea of a good night’s sleep. For the first few months, it was pretty good. But the mattress lost it’s elasticity very quickly. I’m 6′4″ 185, and my wife is 5′4″ 125. Now in order to feel what the mattress used to feel like I have to move onto the hump in middle of the bed. I thought I was saving money over Tempurpedic, but this was an expensive mistake. I’m having worse back pain than ever and cannot sleep without tossing and turning all night. I’m not sure if I should try another foam mattress or go back to a traditional mattress.
