I slept on one of these beds at a Radisson and really loved it. I was REALLY sick with the flu at the time and it felt like heaven.
So, I decided to start researching beds. I read many reviews and checked lots of prices, ultimately settling on this bed.
I bought the 5000 along with the mattress luxury cover/pad.
We already had a 2 inch memory foam pad at home, so I used this as well.
It arrived about 10 days after I made the purchase.
I read that the bed was noisy, so I prepared for the set up by purchasing 6 sheets of felt with adhesive on the back. I planned to cut the felt into strips to use as a cushion everywhere I felt might creak/squeak. I used it all. First I cushioned everywhere the frame touched the slats, then every place the box touched the slats.
Last but not least, I used some on the box itself, between the panels where I thought it may rub together and creak.
I was in a hurry to get it set up to surprise my husband.
UPS dropped it off at 2pm and I started working on the set up about 4pm, working off and on until I finished at 7pm.
For a woman all alone, the set up was no problem. I used only a rubber mallot.
I took my time, making sure I did everything perfectly.
The only thing I had trouble with was the foundation cover. It was hard to get the cover over the corners… kind of like getting a really tight fitted sheet on a mattress. I eventually got it on using rubber surgical gloves which helped me get a good grip on the cover.
Next was the mattress set up, which was simple.
When I started I was worried that the new bed would be much lower than my old bed but once set up, it was MUCH higher.
Ok, all set up, all the pads and toppers in place!
I set my side to 25 (based on my hotel experience) and my husbands to 45. The first night was awful for me. My husband rolled to my side all night and I was just plain uncomfortable.
The next night I bumped my side to 45 and slept much better.
My husband loved it from the first night. He always has a backache in the morning and has not had even one since we started sleeping on this bed.
I was still waking everyday with a headache. I finally figured out this was being caused by my old PILLOW.
My pillow was awesome but just too flat for this bed. I ran to Ikea and got the best pillow they sell (59.00) and now I am sleeping GREAT. I am now at sleep number 50, with my new pillow.
I have the 5000 with an additional 2″ memory foam pad (my own) AND the pillow top mattress pad purchased at Select Comfort. I stored the 1″ memory foam pad that came with the mattress pad.
This bed is MORE quiet than any bed I have ever had… maybe because of the felt. It make no noise. Period.
Just as a side note… my sister has had 4 of these beds for 8 years and has had no problems. This contributed significantly to my decision to lay out the 2000k for the bed. She is not gentle or cautious with anything they own and her beds have been put through much abuse over the years. I had her check her beds for deterioration and mold. Nothing to report. One bed is being stored in a barn loft and aside from being dirty it does not have problems!
Stored in extreme Texas heat and humidity and still no problems. I was sold.
I do not regret buying the bed and believe it will prove to be a great investment.
