We replaced our 10 year old Simmons Beauty Rest King Size mattress with a Tempur-Pedic Original King Size. I had read reviews that the memory foam was “hot” and the mattress had a strong smell, but I have never slept hot and the smell was like a “new car” smell that disappeared in a week or two. We have now had the mattress for 6 months and if it really holds up for 20 years we will buy another one - if WE hold up for 20 more years! The comfort is great and the support for me is also very good as I tend to sleep on my stomach. We also bought a pillow and I really like it a lot, but I can also see how some people would not like the pillow because it is heavy and seems compact. It is exactly what I need for a good night’s sleep, but for those who like to be surrounded by fluffy things this pillow would not be the answer. We also got the Tempur-Pedic mattress pad that protects the mattress while not interfering with the feel of the foam - I am glad we did instead of using a standard pad.
We got the bottom of the line mattress that had no “air flow” layers or other features of the more expensive models and we are completely happy. The reason we got the “Original” was simply because it felt the best in the store. Although it is the bottom of the line I would say it is still a very expensive item, but since it is such a big improvement over what we have had in the past I would certainly buy this again. It did take a while to get used to the new feel, but now the feeling is familiar and I find it much to my liking.
