I love that I can change the firmness on this bed because some nights I just want to sink into a hammock when other nights I need some more support in my lower back. So far it hasn’t aggravated my sciatica like my husband’s old Ikea foam mattress did. Last year my sciatica was so bad that I couldn’t stand up straight for 4 months and even when I could stand up straight, I could only sit or stand for 20 minutes at a time. Now, I rarely feel any back pain at all. I really feel rejuvenated when I wake up on this bed and my husband agrees. The only compromise you have to make when you’re sleeping with another person, is that you have to either climb up onto their side or fall into the other. But I guess that’s only if they’re at a 55 and you’re at 25.
I also purchased one for my mother who constantly complains about her bed. She wanted a bigger bed so I bought her a queen size frame. She purchased a somewhat cheap mattress and it sagged shortly after, so I researched and bought her a McCroskey mattress. They average about $1500 for just the top mattress, which is all I purchased. She didn’t really like it when we got it home but it’s non-refundable. It’s a great mattress but just not for her.
So I finally decided to check out the Sleep Number Bed and I purchased the Select Comfort 5000 with an adjustable foundation and she absolutely loves it. It took awhile for the salesman at the store to explain to my mother that she can control the firmness. English as a second language and all.
When my brother house-sits for me, he used to sleep on the floor since my bed was too soft for him. He was skeptical at first but once I showed him how to use it, he hasn’t used the floor since.
With the reviews I’ve read about it being hard to get out of bed because they’re overweight, they can always put the bed back to 100 to get more support.
