I’m not big on writing reviews, but I just had to write about my Select Comfort Ultra (now 5000 Series) that I’ve had for almost 7 years. It’s the least I can do for Epinions, since I use it frequently, and for others worried about the bed and/or company that makes this product.
What prompted me to write now? Well, my better half asked me to wash the bedding today, so I decided to unzip the Ultra and “flip” the foam top. Guess, what? You got it, MOLD. Ahhh, I thought and quickly went surfing on the net for info on this, and to my dismay found a lot of stories about it. Arming myself with info so that I can call and fight with Select Comfort to get the foam and chambers replaced, I was pleasantly surprised. After almost 7 years with their product, ANY company could find an excuse NOT to assist you OR blame YOU. Nope, not here. The Rep took my info and this is the shocker…explained all materials would be replaced and we will get it right out to you, including return UPS labels to send the old materials back to SC. Talk about Customer Service. Yeah, ok, they don’t want to get sued either, but this is almost unheard of, especially without “fighting”, and I actually thanked the Rep because of this pleasant surprise.
I think that info speaks for itself and I have a few more “Pro” thoughts on this product for those considering. The bed has been very good to sleep on. My better half can adjust her side to her liking (softer) and I can do the same on my side (harder). No back problems or anything else has resulted from using this bed, only a full nights sleep…unless the kids wake us. Durability is excellent, with many years of kids jumping on the product (don’t recommend this), no issues with the electronics, and no broken plastic. We are very pleased with this product.
On the con side…Yes, we’ve had a little sag problem in the middle, but nothing that is intolerable. The “boxspring” section was awfully noisy in years 1 & 2, but called CS after a couple of years and they sent out another, updated version (for free) and cured the problem. I would tend to agree that the parts to make this bed probably cost about $200, probably even less if made in China, but the customer service I have received in 7 years has certainly made up for any of the “con” issues…which don’t really detract from our sleep.
All in all, a very satisfied customer and would certainly look to buy another one in the future based in large part on the CS experience alone, and of course, the sleep experience.
