My husband and I did a lot of research. We were considering either replacing our entire mattress system, or getting something like a topper to enhance our current mattress. I researched EVERYTHING, and tried out countless mattresses and toppers at local stores.

My husband was in a car accident 3 and a half years ago. He has a couple of bulged discs in his neck and lower back, resulting in chronic discomfort. His sleep has suffered greatly, because he often wakes up with parts of his body numb from poor blood circulation, or just the aches and pains in general.

I have a rare autoimmune disease where my body attacks its own cartilage. This results in arthritis type problems. My sleep had also started to suffer. I was waking up 3 and 4 times a night in pain. Both my husband and I could hardly get out of bed in the mornings because of the stiffness and aches.

Instead of purchasing the entire mattress system, I decided to get the 4 inch Isoform memory foam mattress topper from Bergad. (The toppers are available in 1, 2, 3, and 4 inch thicknesses.) It was absolutely the best buy for the money of all the items available on the market. (Definitely much more economical than Tempurpedic.) I was impressed with the free foam sample that they sent me in the mail. I also liked the fact that the product is made in the U.S., right there in their factory, from start to finish. They control the quality of the process, the ingredients, and thus the final product. (If I buy something that was imported from outside the U.S., who knows what ingredients might have gone into the making of the mattress???)

I have got to say, this was by far one of the best “investments” I’ve ever made. Sleeping on this topper is like pure HEAVEN! We’ve only slept on it for 3 nights now, but we are amazed at the dramatic improvement in the quality of our sleep. In the mornings, the aches and stiffness aren’t there when we wake up. So, getting out of bed is “technically” easier. It’s still difficult to get out of bed, though, because now we are so comfy!

If you’re worried about the added height to your bed, and about sheets, it’s really no problem. There are lots of sheet sets available that say they fit mattress depths of anywhere from 14 to 20 inches.

Bergad also supplies a full mattress replacement that involves the use of this Isoform material. When it’s time to replace our whole mattress system, you can bet I’m going to be getting in touch with Bergad again!

I originally put this review under another topic (the Bergad Isoform Mattress), because the topper wasn’t a listed item on this site that I could review. When the topper was added to this site, I moved the review here. We have now had the topper for well over a month, and we are still very pleased with it. (My husband went on a camping trip with his two boys, and when he got back, all he could say (and more than once) was “Boy, did I ever miss our topper!!” Come to think of it, he never did mention that he missed me!)

There are a few other things that I also wanted to add.

In my research, I came across the fact that when others have bought memory foam products, whether a topper or a full mattress, there was an unpleasant chemical odor for several days after they first “unwrapped” and started using the product. I’m happy to report there were no unpleasant odors at all with this topper. In fact, there was no noticeable odor at all. The day the topper arrived, my husband had set it up on the bed by the time I got home from work. He mentioned that it was rather heavy to try to maneuver and set it up, but he had managed even with a bad back. So if you get one, you might want to think about having at least 2 people to unwrap it and set it up on the bed, just to make things easier.

Second, I forgot to tell you where you can get this topper. You can check out the Isoform products at the www.bergad.com website. They will send you a free sample of the foam, as well as a brochure about the full mattress. They also list a toll free number that you can call if you have any questions.

Lastly, after using the topper for a while, I called the owner to let him know how very pleased we were with it. He told me he was glad to hear it. He also mentioned that they had gotten a contract with a hospital to use their toppers. The hospital had spent a lot of money on some very expensive “medical” bed toppers to help specific types of patients to heal. But the patients weren’t healing as expected, so they tried some toppers from Bergad. The Bergad toppers worked beautifully, and the patients were more comfortable and able to heal properly. So the hospital decided to rip the thousand dollar toppers off the beds and replace them with Bergad toppers. Now, the owner didn’t need to tell me this story to try and sale me a topper - I already had it set up on our bed. I think he was just genuinely pleased to know that his product was helping people.
