I bought a Bergad mattress (Queen 8″) without the foundation and the bed was shipped within five days of my order. I was impressed! After hearing of all the customer service issues I was ready for a major headache! However, soon after I ordered a topper from them and it was one headache after another. They were very helpful on the phone but I had a lot of issues with our transaction. They over billed me $100, sent me my order long after I ordered it (I had to remind them to ship it) and even then they sent the wrong item, and never returned my correspondence when they said they would. In the end they credited my account and were very polite to work with.
But the bed is wonderful! It was extremely firm at first and felt as hard as a board so I highly recommend sleeping on a foam topper to get used to it (2″ is best) if you’re not used to a firm bed. Now, though, I prefer just the bed itself (helps with my back pain to be firm). It’s a heavenly feeling to be floating like that and I don’t find it to be too warm at all (we use a mattress cover too). A topper can add a lot of heat, though, so pre-warning.
The smell is kinda bad but it goes away after a few weeks. It didn’t make us sick or anything, though.
I bought the bed because of my bad morning back pain and it didn’t completely heal me. I do feel sooo much better in the mornings but I still can’t “sleep in” on the weekends. Anything more than 8 hours and my lower back does start to ache. I guess the days of youthful slumber are over…
But hands down the bed is great and the price is unbeatable. You can get free shipping too if you play your cards right. Just be prepared to watch your bill and stay on them to get the order straight. They’re a good shop and seem like really good people. They just don’t have it all together, is all.

Here’s an update since I bought the bed…
I returned it. I still had lower back pain and, since I’m only 32, I figured I still had some fight in me to find the perfect bed. I’ve since purchased a Sealy Posturepedic and my back pain 98% gone. I’m in love with it!
Bergad customer service really is terrible. I worked solely with Roseanne since I found her to be the only customer service representative there with customer etiquette. But she was really bad about calling me back (my only gripe with her). I had to call three times to find out if they received my bed so I could get my money back and it wasn’t until I supplied the guy’s name that signed for it (obtained this through Yellow Shipping) that it was finally found.
I haven’t confirmed that I’ve received credit yet but I *think* I will. I lost $200+ on the shipping so I recommend only buying this mattress if you are 100% sure you want a memory foam bed. But if you are sure you want that type of bed, Bergad is an excellent choice.

After a long journey, I’ve finally found the perfect sleep and figured out some important things along the way.
First off, I have lower back pain when I sleep and have learned that I need a firm bed. A Tempurpedic/Bergad is still too soft. I bought a really nice Sealy Posturpedic pillow top mattress and, although the mattress is “firm”, the pillow top makes it too soft for me. It wasn’t at first but once the bed broke in the back pain came back. It’s an amazingly fluffy sleep but the back pain in the morning ruins any possibility of sleeping in. But I learned a trick! I put a felt-like mattress pad on the bed and another mattress cover on top of it pulling it tight at the corners. The affect pulls the pillow top taught thus giving a firmer surface. Poof! No more back pain! My husband’s back pain is gone too and he’s had and accepted his for years! We’ve been sleeping in painless comfort for weeks now and love our bed setup.
Next…onto pillows…
I’ve learned that if you’re a back sleeper (like me), you need a soft or flat pillow. If you’re a side sleeper, you need a higher or medium-firm pillow. Either way, go for goose down. I’ve been through four pillows so far, including the tempurpedic and Makura buckwheat pillow. Finally I have no neck pain either.
So four mattresses and five pillows later, no back or neck pain. It’s been a long battle but I didn’t give up. I’m only 33 and athletic so why the pain? I don’t know. But I’m happy to say that I have a long road of sleeping in that I’m *really* looking forward to.
