I have a ruptured disc in my lower back so I have to be careful about re-injury and what kind of support I’m getting from my mattress. I shopped around and looked at the Tempur-pedic (felt like I’m laying in wet sand & its kind of hot) and Select Comfort. I was ready to order the Select Comfort & happened upon Comfortaire. The price was so much less, they have a better warranty, and there wasn’t the hard foam center bar that I was reading about with Select Comfort so I decided to give it a try.
It comes with two boxes - not too heavy. I was able to set it up myself - zipping up the mattress top is the hardest part but just take your time and don’t have the air bladders completely full. Setup was maybe 30 minutes. I upgraded to the visco memory foam topper and I’d recommend leaving that out for an hour or so to let it air out and bounce back (it’s really compressed into a bag for shipping). Also leave the foam sides out too so they can straighten out.
The mattress is not too thick so no problem with getting sheets to stay on. Nor are you having to climb up into the bed. You will have to play with the setting to get your right firmness. What I found is that I actually do like a firmer mattress so I just let the air out for a few seconds from full. The big difference from a firm coil mattress is that I get the ‘firm’ but not the pressure points that cause the achy hips & shoulders. I have always been a toss and turn person but I find I’m doing it a lot less and when I do it’s not because I am waking up with my hip/back killing me so it’s ‘time to flip.’ And now that I have my setting established I really do get up in the morning and I’m not all achy.
So, I’m really happy with the mattress. My big advice is to just play with the firmness until you get it right (don’t be surprised if ultimately you don’t let much air out at all). I bought mine from Elixa.com.
