Don’t waste your money on a Craftmatic Model II Adjustable Bed. They are VERY expensive, and the price doesn’t reflect the value.
My Mother-In-Law purchased two twin sized Craftmatic Model II Adjustable beds (from here on out I will refer to it as a CM2AB*), she says now it was one of the most stupid purchases she ever made.
I think she was taken in by the advertising, and it seemed like a smart purchase at the time, but she soon realized that she didn’t really need an adjustable bed in the first place.
When you buy an expensive item, say for example, a Maytag appliance or a Mercedes Benz, or a Rainbow vacuum, you know that even though the price is high, the quality of the product is very high. Not so with the CM2AB*. The wood panels that make up the tilting components of the bed are made from low grade plywood and particle board.
It’s really a pretty basic mechanism that makes it operate, and I know it doesn’t cost NEARLY what it sells for to manufacture it. The gearbox and worm gear that make it operate are pretty basic, as well as the vibrator and the heating device. I can’t POSSIBLY see how this bed could sell for more than $750, $1000 at the most. The beds my Mother-In-Law purchased just 18 months ago were over $3000 EACH.
I realize that the CM2AB* is marketed primarily to older people who may spend a lot of time in bed, and the bed isn’t intended to be abused, but from my experience, the bed can’t take much abuse. My two children, 7 and four, were jumping on the on the bed when it was fully flat, (something they shouldn’t have been doing in the first place, especially on grandma’s NEW $6000 beds) and they snapped the particle board underlayment. For the price, this bed should have been made using only the highest quality plywood underlayment, and it just isn’t.
And that’s why I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. It’s price WAY exceeds it’s value. The wood products used in its manufacture are low quality and weak, and the complexity of the remaining components (the frame, the mechanisms that raise and lower the head and feet, vibrate and produce heat) just don’t add up to the $3000 price.
