Last week, after searching and researching, I finally bought a mattress. A $2,100 mattress. But I had done my homework & Verlo has a decent product. The salesman in their franchised store was knowledgeable. In fact, his personality and knowledge is why I finally bought from them. Plus the fact that their products are “made to order” in this town.
Today (Friday 3/1/02) was the big delivery day. My old mattress and box spring are off, I’m all set…waiting and waiting for my 9a to 1pm delivery. It’s 1:30pm, the phone rings. A barely-English speaking individual tells me they are running late. LIKE I HADN’T NOTICED! He tells me they will be there in a hour. No good. I have to pick my son up from school, 45 minutes in the opposite direction! He mumbles something and I tell him I will return at 3:30pm and he came come then. At 3:45pm, the phone rings AGAIN. They need directions! They show up at 4:15pm. They start bringing the king-size box springs, then the excuses start. “Can I see your receipt? Did you pay for a mattress topper?” The $600 latex topper?! Of course I did. They don’t have it. I call the salesman. He tells me that “they forgot to load it on the truck” and they can come back out on Tuesday. YOU’VE GOT TO BE KIDDING? I sat here all day waiting. I have a full-time job with an hour commute each way. Why can’t they run back to their local factory and pick it up & return this evening? After all, it’s custom made right here in this town, that’s what they sell you on. The delivery guys are aghast! “It’s Friday,” they say, after they recover from the huge gasp of air they sucked in. The salesman replies that it closed at 3pm. At that, I am shocked. I guess buying and paying for a $2,100 mattress set doesn’t mean anything to this company. Had they delivered it this morning, like we had scheduled, they would have had time to fix their mistake. No good.
I told the delivery guys to remove their product from my home. A phone call to the salesman resulted in the credit to my American Express card…..I’m done with Verlo!
When will customer service ever mean anything in today’s society? Some people simply don’t take pride in their work anymore. Verlo’s Mattress Factory is 45 minutes from my home. The delivery guys make $10 an hour. But Verlo refused to have them go back and get it to save a $2,100 mattress sale!
No wonder more and more people are buying on the Internet. The prices are lower and there is no customer service, either.
