I have been a firm believer in air mattresses for over 8 years. From the standpoint of comfort and allergen reduction, these mattresses can’t be beat. Our initial purchase was from the Select Comfort line of mattresses, and we are still very happy with it, but last year I purchased a Cerulean Comfortaire mattress from Richard at www.nationwidemattress.com, and I found that the Comfortaire was considerably more comfortable than the Select Comfort. The Comfortaire doesn’t have a hard strip of foam running down the center of the mattress in larger beds, and it really makes a BIG difference. (It’s hard to snuggle up on your sweetie properly with that strip getting in the way!)
The craftsmanship was identical (or perhaps slightly superior on the Comfortaire line). The only negative thing I noticed about the Comfortaire mattress compared to the Select Comfort was a slightly more rubbery smell, which eventually faded.
Nationwide Mattress has provided absolutely SUPERIOR service, both with the initial purchase and recently with a small warranty problem. The fact that the air chamber developed a small leak in no way counts against this product, since our Select Comfort air bladder also developed a leak over time and had to be replaced. In both cases the replacements went without a hitch, but frankly I found Richard at NationWide mattress to be a lot nicer about it, very helpful, and the whole replacement deal took about 10 minutes (at no cost to me,of course!)
A final point in favor of the Comfortaire Cerulean mattress is the price. At roughly $950 for a queen sized model, versus $1400 for the Select Comfort 5000 queen pillowtop mattress, the choice becomes pretty obvious.
One of these days I hope to replace our king-size Select Comfort with a Comfortaire Cerulean, and I will definitely be going to Nationwide to get it, they really care about their customers. Check out their reviews - I am not the only satisfied customer!)
