My husband and I purchased a Lady Englander mattress after visiting many department and furniture stores. We finally settled on a Lady Englander that we found in a small family-owned mattress store in Clifton Park, NY. The store had been in business since 1902 and primarily sold the Englander mattresses. The salesman convinced us that the Lady Englander was the best on the market. The price was slightly lower than the other leading mattresses on the market. The mattress was built with quality products so good in fact that the manufacturer warranted the sleep system with a non pro-rated warranty. Initially, the mattress seemed wonderful. It was so comfortable, we felt we had made the right decision but within a few years we noticed the mattress was no longer comfortable. There were body impressions in the mattress that made sleeping very uncomfortable. We were surprised. We had followed the manufacturer’s instructions about turning the mattress to a T.
I called the store when the mattress was a little over 3 years old and was told that indentations were normal in mattresses. I was told to measure the mattress with a ruler and broomstick. Our indentations were about 1 1/2″ deep. I was told that if the store sent the mattress to the company, we would be without a mattress for at least 8 weeks while the manufacturer examined the mattress. Since the indentations were not that deep, the company would most likely deny the claim. Over the next 2 years, the mattress has become more and more uncomfortable and now the body impressions are about 2″ deep. An expensive foam mattress pad has helped a little but we feel like we were taken. I called the store but the store repair people aren’t available to set up an appointment for about 3 weeks. I suppose we should try the “non pro-rated warranty” again but will it be worth it?
P.S. I noticed that the Sealy mattress standard for body impressions is 1 1/2″. I wonder why Englander’s is 2″?
