I bought my SAT mattress around 2005 and was extremely happy with everything about the bed. After about 2 weeks lower back pain, shoulder pain leg pain… gone. After some use, the side I sleep on was “sagging” and my back and shoulder pain quickly returned. I called customer service, spoke with a very nice woman that clearly described the bed and parts and concluded that I needed a new air chamber. It came in a timely manner. Viola! Good to go. Fast Forward July 4th, 2007. I had two very bad nights of sleep on my SAT bed. I noticed that it was “sagging” again- so I opened up the whole bed and sure enough one of the chambers was totally deflated. The tube attached to that chamber was twisted (don’t ask me how or why) and I couldn’t get it to straighten out. So I called comfort direct and had the unfortunate opportunity to speak to a guy named Kevin. He was combative, abrasive and condescending. Rather than offer assistance he challenged ME to give him a worthy explanation of what the problem was. I tried to give him a description of the problem and was told I wasn’t being clear enough so as to cause him to understand what I needed. When he told me to twist the connecting tube on the chamber to straighten it out, I said that I was sure if I did it would tear the plastic cover. He responded “how do you know?” He told me I must be doing something wrong and informed me that one deflated chamber wouldn’t cause a problem. He suggested that I was having a bad day and that maybe I should call back when I was feeling better. At this point I was so perplexed that I honestly thought I had dialed the wrong number and that this east coast greaseball guy on the phone was playing a prank on me by pretending to work for the company I was calling. I told him I was going to check the number I called and try again because I simply couldn’t believe he actually worked for comfort direct. When I re-dialed Kevin answered again. I asked him if I could speak to someone else- either customer service or sales. He said without hesitation, what’s your credit card number? I couldn’t take it anymore. When I ended the conversation this time- I realized that it was a holiday and I started to worry that someone had broken in to the comfort direct facilities and was raiding their offices. I called their customer service number first thing the next morning and was told that Kevin is the owner of a “franchise” and that he has a problem dealing with people so they are contracted by his “franchise” to deal with his consumers. Since then I have been reading the horror stories about what I am guessing is the same guy Kevin- who seems to be the owner for many years. He was booted off the BBB and I now can say I know 1st hand why. I am still having problems with my bed, but have no idea how to proceed this time. I wouldn’t buy another SAT bed even if it has helped my back problems. $1500 would go a long way towards another excellent theraputic mattress. This one only lasted 2 years and had problems twice. I mostly regret having put 1 penny in this jerks pocket by buying the one I have.
