Well, me and my wife had both been complaining for some time about our mattress . It no longer was providing us with the kind of sleep we needed . We both would toss and turn sometimes taking hours to fall asleep . So we came to the decision that a new mattress was necessary . We went down to a local mattress store and tried out some beds . Well the one that we really liked was the tempurpedic celebrity . When the salesman told us the price we were shocked . They wanted nearly 4 grand for this mattress . This right there put the damper on our hopes to buy one locally .
Well the INTERNET had always provided us with excellent values in the past so I turned there . I contacted quite a few different companies . Most of these companies were all carrying similar products but still very expensive . Also EVERY SINGLE COMPANY I CALLED WOULD BASH THE OTHER . It became comical . I’d call company A and ask them if they had a mattress like company B sells for the same price and they’d go of on some tangent about how company B uses false advertising and they lie to their customers and etc . Well after about ten minutes listening to each of them slander they other they’d try to push a mattress on me . The ironic part is that all these companies would also say how terrible the other BBB rating was even though they themselves had an abysmal rating .
After all this I had just about given up . We had wanted a 12 inch thick mattress and i looked at all the companies that had advertised one and not found any I liked . I had however seen the AWESOME reviews on epinions for bergad and their great BBB record when i first started looking but ruled them out since all they had was one mattress type on their web site . At this point i figured why not just call and ask if they sell other types of mattresses . . Well when i called i reached John Wood . I told him my experiences with the previous companies i had spoken with and much to my surprise he had not one bad thing to say about any of them . His job was to provide me with exactly the mattress i was looking for and not to give me his opinions on others state of affairs .First thing I asked him about was odors . I asked him if their mattresses had a chemical odor because we have 9 month old and i didn’t want here to breath it in . He assured me that they do not . I also asked him about mattress care . He said it NEVER needs to be flipped . I told him about the celebrity and he told me that in fact the can make me a mattress that is EVEN BETTER than the celebrity model .You see while the celebrity and the Bergad are both made of solid foam there are large differences . In the bergads 12 inch thickness you will find no egg crate or low grade foams such as the type you would buy at a walmart type store as a mattress topper. In some OTHER beds I looked at you’d be surprised whats in there for the money . In the bergad there are merely two layers ; a 5 inch layer of Viscoelastic memory foam (the stuff that conforms to your body ) and and a 7 inch thick layer of dense hr 18/35 foam that makes up the base for firmness. These beds are 100% foam through and through . There is nary a coil to be found . He actually got my height and weight and we talked over the exact customer fabrication of a mattress for me and my wife . The specs we came up with were as follows :
• 12″ Thick Total
• 5″ inch visco 5.5 lb
• 7″ inch base 18/35
• 2 full reinforced sides 6″ 18/45
We decide that to provide the elegant feel we were looking for that we wanted 5 ” of viscoelastic foam that conforms itself to your body through the heat your body generates and your weight and a 7 inch HR 18/35 dense foam base which provides structural rigidity and firmness to the mattress . Now I myself am a big guy and I like to occasionally sit on the side of the bed and sleep on the side as well . So John suggested that we reinforce the sides of the Base layer of the bed with 6″ of HR 18/45 this is an ultra dense foam that provides excellent support for weighted areas . With all of that he actually took into account everything and made a bed CUSTOM for us .
I received a copy of the invoice for the order via email the next day . Its supposed to be shipped before Friday April 1st but John said we might even receive it as early as march 30th-31st . The shipping on the mattress itself was expensive . It came out to 250 dollars but john was nice enough to discount if for me to a mere $170 .
I plan on updating this review with more information about the smoothness of shipping and a review of the mattress itself when it gets to me .

I also must add that Bergad gives you a 20 year warranty with the full cost of the mattress covered for 10 years and then it is prorated thereafter for another 10 years .
Lastly they give you a 90 night sleep guarantee . IF you don’t like it after 90 days they’ll either refund you your money or you can choose another mattress .
Oh an this mattress should last at least 20 years according to Bergad . There are no special ways to care for it . Just treat it like you would a normal mattress . It never needs flipping . If you must give it the occasional vacuum . This is a no hassle mattress .
