My husband has chronic back pain so we wanted to purchase a very good quality mattress with firm support. After talking with the salesman and looking at the $1200 price tag, we figured that the Crown Jewel would be the best that we could afford, and would give us an awesome nights sleep. We were right about it–at the time. It was the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in. However, after about 1.5-2 years, my husband was saying that the mattress is sagging. I told him he was crazy and must be imagining it, because I could not see it. Well, after a time I began to notice it, and now it is sagging horribly! Now, I weigh 125 lbs and my husband weighs 205. We are not huge people! We contacted the store that we bought it from and they assessed it and measured 1.5 inch sag on one side of the bed. They said that the box spring was bad too. Now they said Sealy will give us a Sealy Forsythe Plush bed to replace it (plus a $40 pick up fee)!! This is ridiculous since the Forsythe is about half of the price of the Crown Jewel. We are being told that they no longer make the Crown Jewel. I don’t know what to believe, but it is very frustrating when companies don’t stand by their products!
UPDATE:
Originally I would say “don’t buy it” but now I am amending this statement. If you were to consider buying a Crown Jewel mattress, I would just discuss whether or not they are aware of the problems and whether Sealy has changed something in their manufacturing to address the problem. This worked out for us in the end. My husband discussed this with Sealy and they are replacing our mattress with another, equal, Crown Jewel mattress. So they are standing by the product and acknowledging the problem with the bed.
