My wife and I bought the Crown Jewel about 5 years ago. The retailer really talked it up, said it had a great warranty — 10 years. We spent $1,200, the most I have ever paid. Well, the first few years were great. But in year 5, the bed had sinkholes on both sides. I’ve been sleeping in a crater. I have to put a pillow under my back and a rolled up towel under my neck just to “sleep level.” We made a warranty claim. They sent an inspector out. I thought all was fine. But then I got a letter denying the claim and voiding my warranty. The reason: a stain (which I can barely see) was found on my five year old mattress. This letter is strange. The enclosed inspection report confirms that the mattress has indentations of at least 1.5 inches, which qualifies as a covered defect. But then it says the claim is denied because of the stain. The enclosed warranty does say that it does not cover stains to the mattress cover, but that’s not why I made the claim. I made the claim because of the craters. Even stranger, I see at the bottom of the warranty that Sealy reserves the right to void the warranty if the mattress is unsanitary, whatever that means. But my mattress is by no means unsanitary, and the denial letter does not say the claim is being denied because of any “unsanitary” condition — only the stain on the cover is referenced.
My wife and I feel ripped off. Has anyone else out there had a similar problem? What have you done to deal with it?
