Select Comfort Sleep Number made me aware that I really need a very soft mattress which was not what I though I needed or wanted. Make note to get larger size than what you currently have. See review below for more info on this as this is my only regret and wish I could do it differently now.

I recently had a baby and when I was pregnant my back started giving me problems. I thought and was told that after I had my baby that my back would be better. Unfortunately that was not the case as my back started hurting me more.
I started going to the Chiropractor and after several visits which only gave me temporary relief I told my doctor that we owned an old mattress and were thinking of purchasing a new one. She said she has several patients that use the Select Comfort Sleep Number bed and were very happy and have seen improvement.
My husband and I decided to change out our ten year old mattress and get a new one so we started doing research. I did lots of research and decided that since we both felt that we needed the same type of mattress, and after trying out the Select Comfort Sleep Number in the show room and not being that impressed, that we would opt for a regular mattress. We purchased a soft but firm support Beauty Rest mattress. After almost six months using my new mattress and being in pain every night we decided to get another one. I told my concerns to my Chiropractor since me and my husband like the same type of mattress I did not see the need of a Select Comfort Sleep Number bed. She told me that the type of mattress you think you like and need sometimes really is not what you need. With the Select Comfort Sleep Number you can try out different firm and soft levels until you find the one that is right for you. After much consideration and distress about purchasing another mattress only after only six months we decided to try the Select Comfort Sleep Number.
OUR SEARCH OVER:
We received our Select Comfort Sleep Number 5000, and delivery was what the estimate was. Once we pulled the parts out I was very disappointed in the quality; plastic and foam. It seems like you have just paid a $1000.00 or more for this and it only cost the manufacture pennies to make, I almost wanted to cry. Well it was here and I was not going to return it before we at least tried it out. All the pieces went together easily but we did not receive directions on how to put it together in the boxes. We were able to pull them up online but the copy online was in very small print, blurry and hard to read. Thank god we were mechanically inclined that were we able to figure out how to put it together. It took about two hours to assemble it. It has now been 6 months and my back in not hurting when I sleep anymore. This makes the expense all worth it even though it is cheaply made the price to put on a good nights sleep makes it all worth it. MY ONLY REGRET IS THAT WE DID NOT GET A LARGER SLEEP NUMBER BED!!!!!!! We had a bed frame for a queen mattress which was always perfect for my husband and me. However with the Sleep Number Mattress if you require very soft support which I would have never thought your air chamber sinks very low. There is a large foam pad that surrounds the inside of the mattress to keep it from sagging. If your air chamber is a lot lower than the foam pad then technically you have only a small twin mattress to sleep on without ending up on your husbands side which is a different number or on the foam pad which is 10” taller than your air chamber. I wish that we would have gotten the king size then it would feel like a queen. Really consider this if you are thinking of purchasing a Select Comfort Sleep Number bed. When you are trying it out in the show room they usually say that your number is about 50 or 60. This is what I thought I was in the show room but when it had the Select Comfort Sleep Number bed I found to alleviate my back pain my number ended up being 30. I would suggest if you don’t think you need the larger size to at least try the very low number in the show room to actually see if the sleeping area you really would have.
Bottom line my sleep area has diminished considerable which is a big disappointment. The materials that they use and the price I paid is shocking to say the least this company’s profit margin is huge. My husband feels the Sleep Number mattress is ok for him but not as nice as our Beauty Rest mattress. Finding the mattress that is best for you is not always what is best for others and not always what you think it would be. Take your time read the fine print about returns and try several of them out at home if possible before you buy (note some stores only let you exchange with what they have in their store no money back guarantee, or charge for returns so start with the full money back ones first). But as the Visa commercial states Select Comfort Sleep Number bed 1,500.00, a good night’s sleep is priceless which is what I now have. Good luck with your search and I hope this review is helpful.
