When I finally decided to take the plunge and purchase from Bergad, from start to finish everything went just as planned. Previous to the actual purchase, I did hours and hours of exhaustive research and comparing other online competitors. I called one particular mattress company thats been around since 1932 and not only did I find out that they were false advertising and could not tell me truthfully what the exact size of their mattress was, but they were higher priced and a sales rep from Bergad said that this particular company even bought material from Bergad for their mattresses. I went on to check the BBB reviews on Bergad http://www.pittsburgh.bbb.org/nis/newsearch2.asp?ID=1&ComID=0141000031000305 and read “Based on BBB files, this company has a satisfactory record with the Bureau. Any complaints processed by the Bureau in its three-year reporting period have been resolved”
So after all this and then speaking to Jim in customer service who was very nice, not pushy, and extremely knowledgeable about his product, I decided to go with Bergad. After all Jim said I could upgrade from the 8″ to the 12″ with free shipping for a little more than I was currently paying and much less than the competitors price on an evenly compared set.
The next day, I got an invoice via e-mail showing the total price paid and that is was ready to be shipped. I then got an e-mail the following day giving me the tracking # for Yellow Freight. It arrived locally 5 days after I originally placed the order and I called the local Yellow freight # and arranged for home delivery the next day. Well when I got home that day from work, my entire order was waiting for me inside my garage just as I had requested Yellow Freight to do. The boxes were slightly dirty but not torn. My mattress, foundation and pillows were in excellent condition and when I took them out of the plastic covering, to my amazement, there was no noticeable smell whatsoever as I had heard about these mattresses.
By the way, the zippered covering no longer comes in terry cloth or cotton damask. Jim said they found those to not last as long so they switched to a material called “Evolution” that would wear much longer. The covering was very nice and then when I lay down on the 4″ thick viscoelastic memory foam, it was as if I “melted into a cloud”! The feeling was fantastic. I will update more in the near future.
