I wrote long reviews on Tempurpedic & select comfort (all bad items) on various newsgroups before I purchased a Dux bed, and wrote follow-ups every year after. The mattress top was useless after a year and a half and the bed itself got uneven after three years. On side too softer than the other and middle too hard.
I wish these reviews were around when I purchased my sam mattress in 2000. I also was told that it was used in hospitals and in high end motels and on in on in on. As a person in the medical field, I thought, this is great! If people with ulcers on there back side and orthopedic patients ( per Kevin) can use the bed Then this bed is for me! Well 5 years later I’m here to tell you I HATE the flippen bed. I liked it for about 90 days and then of course your trial period is up. I do have back problems I’m constantly adjusting the air valves and it just doesn’t work. I stumbled upon this opinion site because I wanted to by another wool topper and I couldn’t remember comfort directs name so I looked up SAM on google and came across this site. The thing is after reading everyones reviews I agree and feel the same way. It’s just a poor poor mattress that cost me &1500 dollars and many chiropractor visits. Looking back 5 years ago we also had issues with the “freight company” (per Kevin). It took forever to get the mattress they never told me when they were going to deliver the mattress. I came home from work one day and there it was in my BACK YARD! in a huge box. As a single woman I could not lift it into my own house. The only thing I can say is, if your reading this, PLEASE don’t bother I’ve hated this stinkin mattress pretty much right away, it’s not a quality mattress and it will cost you in the long run because I’ve been waiting to save a few pennies to be able to purchase another mattress. I bought my vienna mattress for my semi truck. It has improved my sleep and I now wake up refreshed and feeling like I can easily drive another 750 miles for the day. I would strongly recommend this product to everyone. I wake up with no back pain and at the end of the day when i go to bed, it is like being wrapped in a soothing blanket. It has improved my alertness. Not to mention that it has reduced my trips to the chiropractor. I figure that in the 4 months that I have had it, that I have saved about $400 in chiropractor visits. The mattress breathes very well. I do not wake up in the morning hot and sweaty. The only complaint that I have with the mattress is during the winter months. The mattress becomes like a brick. When I first lay down on it, it will be like lying on a cement slab. After it starts to warm up, then you start to settle in. For someone who puts it in their house it should not be a problem. Over all I love this mattress and I have told other truck drivers that if they try to get it from me I will be breaking their legs.
I bought the sleep system (mattress and foundation) nearly ten years ago. I don’t recall what my impressions were back then, but I do recall that after I moved from a cool climate to a warmer one a few years ago, the mattress seemed uncomfortably warm through my first summer (but I am very sensitive to heat). After that, I didn’t really notice it any more.
It was very comfortable and one of the best things is that my tossing and turning could not be felt by my wife, so we were both well-rested in the morning.
We purchased this 5000 model 6 weeks ago and ever since I have had terrible back pain. I am almost 40 and have slept on waterbeds and innersprings (this 5000 replaced a 2 year old Sterns and Foster) and have never had back pain before. It is miserable and now I am stuck with this bed. I read this board and unfortunately listed to those that sang Select Comfort’s praises. I should have listened more to those that described Select Comfort and their customer service. I called them to ask if they could give me another top to the bed, that maybe I needed something more. That I would be willing to pay the difference. They would sell it to me for $600 plus shipping, no exchanges. Basically they’re attitude is “I’m sorry for your problems but there’s nothing I can do”. If you are serious about getting an air bed. Look at the competitors online. I think you will get a much better deal and also customer service (should you need it) afterwards. Stay away from Select Comfort. They are way overpriced for what they are, customer service is pathetic and it can cause you to have pain you’ve never had before.
I liked the Tempur-Pedic when we first got it. I even showed it to friends. After three years, the mattress began to soften. Two large valleys have appeared where my wife and I sleep. The valleys are now almost one-inch in depth. I began to feel numbness in my arms from sleeping in “my valley.” My back is stiff each morning while getting out of bed. Physically, I feel better before I go to bed than I do after sleeping on the Tempur-Pedic. A physical therapist has recommended that I get rid of the mattress. I hate to throw the mattress away since it was so expensive. My wife is also complaining about the lack of a good-night’s rest. The company is not standing by their product. They have acknowledged to me that the mattress will soften where one lies. The company’s advertisement showing a street roller running over the mattress to demonstrate durability is misleading to consumers. They also told me that the foundation under the mattress might be bad. I bought the foundation from them as well. Both, the foundation and mattress sag. I am 6′2″ and weigh 190 pounds. I don’t feel my size should be a factor. After six years of ownership, and three years of complaining to the company, we are now waving the white flag. At times, I sleep on our 20 year-old mattress that we moved to the spare bedroom. In spite of the age of the old mattress, it is better than the Tempur-Pedic. We are now looking for a new mattress. I am tired of the restless sleep.
My wife and I were shopping for a new Queen size mattress and box spring for our new bedroom set. We went to Sears, 1-800-Mattres and Sleepy’s. The Kingsdown was the most comfortable mattress hands down. I mean it wasn’t even close. Initially we were reluctant because of the $1,200 price tag with the box spring. However, after contemplating whether it was worth saving a couple of hundred bucks for something we would spend 1/3 of our time and not be as comfortable, we decided to go for it. In our haste, the sales manager at Sleepy’s came down $200 dollars in price. It was one of the best investments in our new house. I can say I have never had a bad night’s sleep.
Exactly one year ago today, my husband and I bought the Simmons Beautyrest Plush Pillow Top (Gazelle) model at Matthews Mattress in Davis, CA. What a mistake and the most horrible year of sleep in our marriage.
Our experience started out similar to 90% of y’alls. Went to show room; got sold on this great mattress (”Our BEST seller!”); laid down on it, heard angels singing while resting in heavenly comfort; came back to buy it two days later where the salesman said only after we paid for it that “impressions in the bed are ‘normal’; slept wonderfully for the first 4 months and then BAM! Massive discomfort and pain.
I never really thought too much about my mattress before. That was until I started getting lower back pain.
I went and saw a chiropractor and he suggested I invest in a new mattress (among other instructions). He suggested anything in the middle to high end by one of the bigger named mattresses just to be sure of its quality.
I decided to go with the Sealy Posturepedic because a local store was having a sale 599 (CDN$). This is a lot of money for me because I’m a student. My girlfriend helped out though and we replaced our old lumpy, bumpy double for a nice Posturepedic (Bali model) Queen size with extra lumbar support
