Sleep Comfort Bed Select Comfort Imperial Mattress

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

I bought my Select Comfort bed about 4 years ago, so from reading some of the stories maybe I should consider myself lucky to have at least having four years of not dealing with defective equipment.

My problem deals with the air pump (firmness control system, what a sham) some how it just started losing air from one of the air chambers and it was my Wife’s side of the bed. Well I called Select Comfort and was told that to replace the pump it was going to cost me $65 dollars because after two years the warranty only covers 80% and add 4% for every year after that. Needless to say I was very disappointed with how the company is taking care of my problem. When I received the replacement I noticed that it was labeled as refurbished.

If you’ve been keeping up with me, you know I had to burn my previous mattress (Spring Air) and needed to get a good, solid, extra firm mattress before I slept on the floor with the dogs.

Don’t Risk It! SAM Mattress

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

I found the Web site for this bed when I was doing searches on Select Comfort mattresses. Comfort Direct, the maker of the SAM (self-adjusting mattress), compares its beds to other well-known mattresses, both air and foam, like the Select Comfort models and Tempur-Pedic. From the Web site, the SAM bed sounded great, like an answer to my problems. I have fibromyalgia and a lot of sleeping problems because of that, and I thought an adjustable air mattress sounded like what I needed. I liked that it didn’t have a pump like the Select Comfort beds, because I had heard those developed problems over time, and I had already store-tested foam beds and didn’t find them comfortable. I did think that some of the promises on the Web site were unbelievable, especially the one that the SAM bed could actually increase longevity (yes, they make that claim!), but I chalked that up to marketing hype. Little did I know that those overstated, exaggerated, and misleading statements were the first red flags among many that I missed.

Finally SLEEPING at night!! Therapedic Memory Touch Mattress Topper

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

I spent $900.00 on a mattress set hoping that would solve my back and hip pains and constant tossing and turning all night. I will admit I’m a heavy person and that doesn’t help, but I still need to sleep comfortably. I tested a few mattresses before settling on a simmons beauty rest, thinking it would fit the bill. WRONG. I was still paying on the credit card bill for this thing and the sleep was still fitful.

One day while at Bed Bath and Beyond I saw a Therapedic Memory Foam Mattress Topper display and was impressed with the feel. It was pricey at about $249.00 but my nighttime comfort has increased 200%. As a matter of fact, I never used to be able to lie on my right side for more than a couple of hours because it would cause piercing pain to my right hip. Now I sleep on that side all night long and wake up pain free. Also, I found the position I first got into bed in is often the very same position I wake up in which confirms the comfort and support is awesome. My back no longer aches either.

Another thing is the memory plumps up just like new so the bed is not lumpy looking like it was when I tried down or featherbeds.

I am so happy with this product and will be purchasing another one for my daughter so she can sleep as happily as me.

We really wanted to like this mattress, but we don’t. Select Comfort Ultra Mattress

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

We originally bought this mattress because I thought an air mattress would be less hospitable to dust mites and mold. We found several positive testimonials online, we liked the adjustable firmness feature, and the price was in line with a conventional mattress, so we figured we were getting a good deal. Unfortunately, we have not found the Select Comfort to be comfortable. At the firmer settings it puts disproportionate pressure on the hip and shoulder if you are lying on your side, or on the shoulder blades and lower spine if you are a back sleeper. At the softer settings, your body sags in the middle, leading to back pain the next day. At the middle settings, you are treated to both uneven distribution of pressure *and* sagging. If you sit or kneel on the mattress, and it is on a medium or soft setting, you will sink down enough to hit the hard platform or box spring beneath. The worst was yet to come, however…when I got pregnant, the mattress became unbearably uncomfortable, and I developed a severe and persistent back pain. I know the Select Comfort was to blame, because we stayed at a hotel for a time during my 5th month, and the pain went away. After my first night back on the Select Comfort, the pain returned. I believe that the problem with the Select Comfort is that the air chambers are not springy like a conventional mattress, nor do they conform to the body like a waterbed. I am looking at mattresses on epinions because we have just found out that I am expecting again, and I am absolutely not going through another pregnancy on the Select Comfort!

Gradually developed leaks Aero Bed Mattress Topper

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

We bought our Aero Mattress topper a little more than a year ago. At first, it worked well and we were happy with it — but then it started to leak. It started out being a very slow leak, but now, even though we wake up to re-inflate it 4-6 times a night, we still find that we’re in contact with our mattress — which is an older futon that is hard enough to tap dance upon. Also, some of the “coils” have let go. We’re not getting any sleep and we’re waking up sore and achy each morning. It has become so increasingly difficult and uncomfortable that we are going today to buy a foam mattress to see us through until we can research and buy a whole new sleep system.

As Good as the Hype Tempur Pedic Swedish Sleep System

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

I’ve always preferred a very firm mattress, but have come to realize that it is the support of a firm mattress and not the softness that I desire. Several years ago, we purchased a memory-foam (of another brand) top for our traditional mattress and were surprised at how much better we slept and how much more rested we felt. …once we were up, that is–this material does tend to make it a little harder to abandon the bed.

Don’t Even Bother With This Bed Select Comfort Mattress Sleep Number 5000

Monday, August 25th, 2008

My fiance and I purchased this bed back in January 2003 after both of us had been suffering from back pain. We paid $2000 for our bed. It was shipped to us at no charge in about 10 separate boxes and it was fairly easy to assemble. However, the mattress is nothing but plastic. The foundation is plastic as are the “designer” legs. I felt like I was putting together one of those plastic playhouses kids have. The bed is uncomfortable and has even deflated on me during the night on occasion. I still wake up in the morning with the same upper-back pain I had prior to this purchase. It is nice to be able to adjust the firmness of the bed and it is comfortable for a few minutes. It just doesn’t last, though. I was impressed by the quality of the pillow top but once you get beyond that, you really begin to wonder where the money went. I do not suggest this bed for anyone, unless they like to brag about having a $2000 mattress. Also, when you bump into the bed at all, it sounds like something has broken. Not at all sturdy like you would expect.

$1000 airbed? yeah, its worth it Comfortaire Cerulean Mattress

Monday, August 25th, 2008

SUMMARY:

Based mainly on feedback I read on Epinions on the Comfortaire Cerulean Mattress, I bought one. My wife & I have been sleeping on our kingsize model for over a month now, and are very satisfied with the comfort and value.

DETAIL:

We had purchased a Seally Posturpedic kingsize mattress in FL in 2001. By early 2003, it had pronounced “hammocks” on both sides of the bed…. regardless of which side was up. By summer/fall of this year, we couldn’t stand it any longer, so I started shopping.
